Daniela Santanchè

Daniela Garnero Santanchè (born 7 April 1961) is an Italian entrepreneur and a politician.

Santanchè was born in Cuneo, Piedmont. After studying political sciences she founded a society that focused on marketing in 1990. In 1995 she joined the political party Alleanza Nazionale (AN). While with AN, she became an advisor of the committee in Milan, led by Gabriele Albertini, while during June 1999 she became an advisor of the committee in the province of Milan.
In 2001 she ran for a seat in the Italian Chamber of Deputies: she lost, but when her colleague Viviana Beccalossi decided to give up her seat, she was given a chance to have a place (11 July 2001). From 2003 to June 2004 she was the "assessore comunale" of Ragalna, a city in the province of Catania.
In 2005 she became notorious because of her use of the middle finger against some young people who were against the government and of the creation of a "porno-tax", a tax which should be paid by whoever uses porn material.[1]
On 22 October 2006, while she was participating in a live show, «Controcorrente», to discuss matters regarding the Islamic veil, she was criticized by the Imam of Segrate. The prefect of Milan stated that there are risks and he would consider the possibility of taking some security measures.[2]
More than a year later, on November 10th, 2007, Daniela Santanchè resigned from the Alleanza Nazionale party to join Francesco Storace's new party of La Destra (The Right). The same day, she was appointed as the official speaker for the party.
She is candidate Prime Minister for The Right in the 2008 Italian general election.
