Daniel "Dani" da Cruz Carvalho (born November 2, 1976, Lisbon) is a former Portuguese footballer. Dani began his career with local club Sporting Clube de Portugal and went on to play for other European clubs such as West Ham United, Ajax, Benfica and Atlético Madrid. He had 9 caps for Portugal national football team, since 12 December 1995, in a 1-1 tie with England, to his more recent game, on 29 March 2000, in a 2-1 win over Denmark. He played at the 1996 Olympic Games, where Portugal reached 4th place. Dani was seeking a professional contract after failing to sign for Celtic FC after an initial trial with the Scottish club in 2003. He announced his definitive retirement from football at an early age, in 2004. While still playing football, Dani also worked as a photomodel.

While at Ajax he scored important goals, including a long distance shot in the 1996-97 UEFA Champions League, which brought Ajax to the semifinals. He scored this goal against a club he would play for in the last stage of his career, Atletico Madrid.

After his football career he worked as a presenter for Portuguese television. Furthermore he was one of the contenders in the Portuguese 'Dancing with the Stars'.

At the 1995 FIFA World Youth Championship in Qatar Dani was awarded both 2nd place in Golden Boot and Golden Ball.for the competition.[citation needed]
