1986 saw Daniel charged under the Blasphemy Law 295C in Pakistan after being "convicted" of blasphemy for quoting the Qur'an.[citation needed] Fleeing Pakistan, Daniel arrived in Australia where he worked at the University of Queensland.
In 2002, Daniel was conducting a seminar in Melbourne arranged by Danny Nalliah for Christians about Islam. He was subsequently charged for inciting contempt of Islam in the minds of the listeners (see: The Racial and Religious Tolerance Act (2001) Vic.). Nalliah and Scot initially lost their case, but the Supreme Court of Victoria subsequently upheld an appeal. The case took 5 1/2 years.
