[edit] Career

Recognized by World Soccer Magazine as one of the 50 Most Exciting Teenagers on the Planet in their November 2007 Issue, young marauding Right Wingback Opare received rave reviews for using his incredible pace and precision crossing to great effect for Ghana’s U-17 Team, The Black Starlets[2] at the 2007 U-17 World Cup[3].

A converted midfielder cast in the mold of Brazilian legend Cafu, skillful lateral defender Opare initiated the The Black Starlets attacking moves with surging runs and was responsible for supplying the forwards Ransford Osei and Sadick Adams with precise crosses from wide areas. At the back he looks equally comfortable and composed. He assisted[4] on many of Ghana’s goals at the 2007 African Under-17 Championship in Togo in March 2007 as well as the U17 World Cup where he was a standout in all seven games he played[5].

[edit] Senior Internationals

On November 13, 2007, three weeks after his 17th birthday, the young wingback sensation received his first senior International call-up from Ghana Coach Claude Le Roy for a FIFA International friendly match against Togo at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, Ghana on November 18, 2007[6] after another excellent display, assisting twice on a superb hat-trick by Ransford Osei against Togo's U17 team[7] in a Junior International friendly at the same venue on Sunday November 11, 2007.

The U-17 World Cup star was part of Ghana’s squad for the 2008 African Cup of Nations[8]. However on 10 January 2008, Ghana's Team Doctor Martin Engmann told the media that the youngster has not recovered from an ankle injury[9] he sustained in the Pre-Tournament Training Camp at the Jebel Ali Hotel Resort and Spa in Dubai[10] and was excluded from the Squad together with injured teammates Matthew Amoah and Captain Stephen Appiah[11]

[edit] Real Madrid CF

After the tournament the European media continued to speculate that Liverpool F.C.[12], Real Madrid[13]., AC Milan and Schalke 04 are interested in the young superkid. Real Madrid's international scout Julen Lopetegui has spoken with Opare's representatives about an end-of-season move to Spain. Ashanti are seeking £2 million for the U17 World Cup star[14].

News of the World reported in England that he has hinted that he would prefer a move to the English Premier League. "I'm calm about my future, but to play in Europe will be to fulfil my dreams," Opare said, "The Premier League is sensational". But AS says[15] Opare isn't interested in other offers and is only focused on completing a dream move to Real and that Real are actively organising visas for both Opare and his brother[16] [17][18].

On 06 January 2008 Opare’s representative Jones Abu Alhassan told ghanasoccer.net: "We hope that the negotiations for the transfer of Opare will be finalised at the end of January. "There are some subjects that need to be solved, like his visa."[19][20][21]. The youngster is currently contracted to Ashanti Gold until June 2010.

But on 09 January 2008, AS announced that Real Madrid have reached an agreement with the young wingback, and he will be a Real player for the next four seasons. Real chiefs have not discarded the option of bringing Opare to Madrid after the 2008 African Nations Cup so he can train with Bernd Schuster's first team squad[22][23].
