Daniel Meehan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Father Daniel Meehan is a fictional character on the HBO prison drama, Oz, played by Malachy McCourt.
Meehan was a Catholic priest arrested for assaulting a police officer during a protest he took part in. Other than Ryan O'Reilly, Meehan has very little interaction with any of the other inmates. O'Reilly himself grew up Catholic but left the church because his priests refused to help him. Father Meehan tries to convince O'Reilly that all priests are different and that O'Reilly should come back to the church.
The relationship between Meehan and O'Reilly is rocky initially which is ironic considering that Meehan tries to help get Cyril off of death row. Meehan asks O'Reilly many times for O'Reilly to pray with him but to no avail. However, Meehan dies of an aneurysm and O'Reilly regrets the way he treated Father Meehan when Meehan was nothing but kind to him and O'Reilly asks that he allowed to wash Meehan's body which Dr. Nathan allows.
