Daniel Wendel Imhof (born November 22, 1977 in Wil, Switzerland) is a Canadian footballer who currently plays for VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga. He was born in Switzerland but his parents immigrated to Canada when he was five. Imhof grew up in Smithers, British Columbia and started a study to become a sport teacher at the University of Victoria. In this period he was key player of the University football team. He has two Brothers, his Brothers play in the Minor Leagues in Switzerland Dominic Imhof plays for FC Tuggen and Christoph Imhof played for FC Gossau.

[edit] In Switzerland

In the spring of 1998 Imhof went to Europe to try to get a place in a European football club. Relatives had arranged a training for him at their local Swiss side FC Wil, which head coach Marcel Koller offered him his first professional contract. Two years later Imhof followed Koller to his next club, FC St.Gallen with whom he won the Swiss championship.

[edit] At VfL Bochum

In the summer of 2005 Imhof followed a second time Marcel Koller, who was appointed as new coach of German Second Bundesliga club VfL Bochum. His club promoted into the First Bundesligain the first season. His contract expired in 2007 and the club first didn’t want to offer him a new contract since he didn’t play very regularly on a higher level. But since they couldn’t find a substitute VfL Bochum offered him a new one-year-contract. Ironically he played almost all matches in this season and –according to British sources- even clubs as FC Middlesbrough and Celtic Glasgow want to contract him.

Imhof has 35 caps for the Canadian national side.
