Danelectro Commando

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Danelectro Commando is a combo guitar amplifier manufacteured by Danelectro in 1952-1960. It was typically contributed as the amplifier Little Walter had used.

The circuitry of this 30 watts amplifier is typical of its day, with a 5Y3 Rectifier tube, two 12AX7 preamp tubes, 6SN7 for phase invertion, four 6V6 for power tubes, and a 6SJ7 for the build-in Vibrato unit. What makes it special is the cabinet design: Employing a briefcase design, it contains eight 8-inch Rola 10610 alnicos speakers, split into 2 arrays of 2x2; one of the array will be mounted on the front side of the main casing, while the other array will be mounted on the back side, with the actual amplifier and controls within the "briefcase". when in use, the amplifier will open up, allowing the 8 speakers to face relatively forward, while the player can config the controls from the back.

When closed, the amplifier is 22"x22", with 10" depth. It weights 38lbs, relatively lightweight for a valve combo amplifier.
