Dandeli governed by city municipal council in Uttara Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India. It is a picturesque city set amidst Large scale Industries and the backdrop of the Western Ghats known as National integrated city and multicultured, it boasts more cultural values. Dussera and Diwali are the main attractions as they are celebrated a grand way. Also it is also known for its picturesque locations.

There is a strong belief that the city is named as "Dandeli" after Dandelappa, a loyal servant of the Mirashi landlords who lost his life because of his loyalty. Even today, people worship him in temple.

Dandeli is located at coor d|15.27|N|74.62|E|[1]. It has an average elevation of 473 metres (1551 feet).

As of 2001 India census[2], Dandeli had a population of 53,287. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Dandeli has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81% and, female literacy is 68%. In Dandeli, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Dandeli is known for its rich greenery and as a Wildlife sanctuary. It had a rail head built by the British known to be the oldest and now it doesn't exist. Tourism is gaining importance since white water rafting is done on the river Kali.

Dandeli is a natural habitat for wildlife. Safaris in open jeeps into the Dandeli wildlife sanctuary accompanied by trained naturalists are the best way to view wildlife here. It is home to big cats such as tigers, leopards, and even black panthers, elephants, gaur, deer, antelopes, many kinds of reptiles and a rich variety of birds. It is also a perfect place for white water rafting. Of late, it has become a hot tourist spot and attracts many local and foreign tourists all the year around.
An adventure trek into the dense forest with expert guides you can follow trails, which leads all the way up to the peaks of nearby hills. The views from atop the hill are astounding with the panoramic view of backwaters of Supa Dam, misty mountains and greenery spread out for miles.
Owing to the expansion of tourism industry today, many jungle resorts and camps, and also nature camps have come up around the place catering to the needs of the tourists.
However, due to rapid expansion of the tourism industry there is a fear of losing the flora and fauna which in fact is the heart of this place. In order to create awareness among the people on these ill effects a small voluntary group "Save Dandeli" has informally started functioning. Dandeli is surrounded by natural, historic and religious spots in the form of River Kali, the caves of Kavla, the Syntheri rocks, Ulvi temple, Sykes point, the Supa dam (a 2*50 MW hydro-electric power station) etc. Dandeli is also known for its Paper Industry West Coast Paper Mill Limited. It is one of India's largest paper manufacturing company. Dandeli is also known for its cosmopolitan culture.

Closest rail head: Alnavar (35km) Londa (50km), Dharwad (55 km), & Hubli (72 km). Dandeli is well connected to Bangalore, Mumbai (Bombay), Goa, Belgaum, Karwar and Dharwad, Hubli by road. Several buses ply to Dandeli everyday.
