  • Weeks 1 and 2. In a Dancing first, Weeks 1 and 2 culminated in a double elimination, in which the lowest-scoring male and female celebrities were eliminated in the same episode. The judges' scores for the two weeks, determined on the basis of the total number of points they awarded during both weeks, was added to the combined audience votes for both weeks. Kristi & Mark's 27 is the highest score on a first dance in the show's history. the judges chose Jason & Edyta to perform their Mambo again as the encore.
  • Week 3. After Jonathan Roberts filled in for his ill wife Anna in a rehearsal with Steve, the judges asked Steve & Jonathan to perform the Week 3 encore (Jonathan, in a tuxedo, took Anna's role).
  • Week 4. For the Week 4 encore, because Len wanted Shannon, Carrie Ann wanted Jason, and Bruno wanted Kristi, Adam & Julianne were asked to reprise their Paso Doble, which began with Adam on a unicycle for entertainment purposes. It was also the first time that Julianne Hough and her partner were eliminated, since she joined the show in Season 4.
  • Week 5. Kristi & Mark's rumba received a 29, placing them in first place again. They also received their first 10 from Len and had the first encore performance. Priscilla and Louis were eliminated.
  • Week 6. Kristi & Mark's jive received the first perfect 30 of the season. The country group dance was chosen as the encore for week 6.
  • Week 7. Cristián injured his arm during his samba; the judges gave him scores based on his performance up to that point. After learning his scores, Cristián was sent to the hospital to have his arm checked; Bergeron noted that the medics who examined Cristián felt he had suffered a muscle cramp. On the results show, Cristián revealed that he had ruptured a tendon in his left bicep muscle, an injury that will require surgery; nevertheless, he is currently able to continue performing. Jason & Edyta were asked to reprise their Quickstep for the encore. Like previous seasons, Jerry Rice, Kenny Mayne, and Len Goodman did segments for "Dance Center". For the first time all season, Kristi & Mark were not in first place, narrowly losing out to Jason & Edyta.
  • Week 8. Len Goodman announced on the Week 7 results show that each couple will be able to do one lift in each dance this week, so long as the lifts are keeping with the spirit of the dance. There was no encore from any of the dancers chosen by the judges. Cristián & Cheryl earned first place for the first time this season.
  • Week 9. The contestants chose random dances from a hat. As well, the judges decided that no lifts were allowed in either of their dances in this week. Kristi and Mark were chosen to reprise their Tango for the encore performance.
  • Week 10. Mark Ballas and Edyta Sliwinska reach the finals for the first time (Edyta and her partner Joey Lawrence missed by one week in season 3), while Cheryl Burke became the first professional to reach the finals three times (her previous partners were Drew Lachey and Emmitt Smith). The stars danced a group Cha-Cha-Cha, a freestyle dance, and their favorite routine of the season. Kristi and Mark became the first finale couple, and eventual winners, to receive three perfect 30s.
