Dance Dance Revolution EXTRA MIX is a music video game that is part of the Dance Dance Revolution and Bemani series. It was developed and produced by Konami, and released in Japan on June 7, 2001 for the PlayStation video game console. It does not have an arcade counterpart.
Many of the songs in the game are from the DDR SOLO games, DDR 4thMIX PLUS, and preview songs from DDR 5thMIX (such as "DIVE" by BeForU).
EXTRA MIX uses the "CD wheel banner"(in all Music Mode) and "Genre sorting" song selection interface of 4thMIX, although with different colors. The frame rate during gameplay hovers around 30, characteristic of pre-5thMIX DDR games.
EXTRA MIX is known for its notoriously strict timing, which narrows the timing window necessary for Greats and Perfects.
EXTRA MIX features the sneak peak video of the J-pop group BeForU seen only in the ending credits of the console. This Game Console has an Arcade Link feature into a Dance Dance Revolution 5thMIX Arcade.
