Dan Forshaw (musician)

Dan Forshaw (born 1981, Blackpool, Lancashire, England) is a British Jazz musician and educator. Since commencing his professional career aged 16, Dan has played all over the world. He has six albums to his credit the last two released under his own label, 4shaw music. Known for his innovative and refreshing approach critics have commented that Dan's music is 'cool, clever and creative'.[1] Dan has studied and or played with some of the best names in the music business; Branford Marsalis (Modern day jazz legend), Ravi Coltrane, Greg Tardy (Elvin Jones), Butch Thomas (Sting), Mike Haughton (Cliff Richard / Iona), Frank Griffith and Tony Woods.[2]
He was hailed as "one of the leading young lights on the British Jazz scene"[3] and has been a keen supporter of live jazz across the UK.[4]
As a music educator Dan was Director of Jazz Studies and Music Technology at the Sir Thomas Beecham Music School, Rossall, Fleetwood[5]and has been offered lecturing posts internationally, including a position at the Beijing Institute for Contemporary Music.[6] In 2008 Dan Forshaw Quartet performed the seminal John Coltrane album 'A Love Supreme' in London. In 2008, Dan was appointed as Artistic director, and Artiste in residence , at Urban Soul / May Street Church, Belfast. [8] This has lead Dan to working with musicians such as John Kelly and the Irish Chamber Orchestra[9], and many other musicians from across Ireland.
