Dan Doherty

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dan Doherty was general manager of Al Swearengen's Gem Theater in Deadwood, South Dakota when it opened in 1877. The character "Dan Dority" in the HBO television series Deadwood (played by W. Earl Brown), who occupies a similar position, is presumably based on him.

Doherty opened his own saloon with Johnny Cooley in 1879, and left Deadwood for Nevada in the late 1880s. He married while residing in Deadwood.
