Dan Caragea is a Contemporary Romanian art critic (fine arts and theatre), literary critic, essayist, journalist and translator. He is specialized in psychology and computational linguistics. He made his debut in art criticism in the cultural magazine of his high-school Fratii Buzesti in Craiova, when he was in the 10th grade. He has published many art-related essays and studies in specialized publications from Romania, Spain, France and Portugal.

He graduated from the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Letters, with a Double Major in Romanian Language and Literature and Portuguese Language and Literature, in 1978. Doctor in Psychology, University of Bucharest.
1975,1976 – The Institute of Linguistics of the University of Bucharest, Department of Romanic Linguistics.
1976 – Institute of Criticism and Literary Theory “George Calinescu”, Bucharest.
Since 1990: accredited journalist. He graduated from the Course of Journalism orientated by journalists from the newspaper “The Guardian”,Great Britain.
Between 1998 – 2000, he took up specialization courses in Lisbon, Madrid, Amsterdam and Paris.
[edit] Literary and Journalistic Career
In 1988, he was Literary Referent for The Odeon Theatre, Bucharest. He was the Literary Director of the Edinter Publishing House in Bucharest. In 1991, he co-edited the supplement LAI of the Romanian newspaper Cotidianul.
In Portugal, he was the Literary Director of the Amadis Publishing House, and the Founding Director of PUP – Publicações Universitárias Portuguesas. He collaborated to the Bilingual Cultural newspaper Diaspora, founded in 2004 in Lisbon.
At the present time, he is a permanent collaborator on the Arts Magazine Niram Art, from Spain. He collaborates with art reviews on several publications in Romania, Spain and Portugal.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s he was Professor at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Letters, Department of Portuguese Language. In 1998, he was responsible for the Department of Semantics, OCS S.A., Madrid, creator of e-lexis, a data base integrated in search engines which allows simultaneous search in 10 languages.
In 2000 he created the ATHOS system, for complex, virtual archives.
In 2003 he founded the company Cyberlex, where he created the Spanish and Portuguese variant of the program for semantic analyses of the textual content, Tropes.
