Dan Barreiro

Dan Barreiro is a sports radio talk-show host on KFAN 1130-AM in the twin cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul. Born in Gary, Indiana, Barreiro was a sports columnist at the Star Tribune for 17 years after previously working at the Dallas Morning News.[1] Barreiro left the Star Tribune in March 2004 to focus primarily on his radio show Bumper to Bumper, which airs from 4 to 7 p.m. CT weekdays and frequently discusses topics other than sports.
Other on-air personalities during the show include Joe Anderson, known as "Mr. Phunn,"[2] and producer Cory Roufs. Barreiro began his career at KFAN in 1992 partnered on-air with Chad Hartman, the son of longtime Star Tribune columnist Sid Hartman.[3] The duo was selected as the "Best Sports Talk Radio Hosts" in 2000 by local weekly City Pages.[4] In 2001, the pair broke up, and Hartman now hosts the show leading into Barreiro's.[5] On his own, Barreiro earned the title "Best Sports Talk Radio Host" from City Pages in 2005[6] and 2006.[7]
In 2005, Barreiro also began airing a show called Sunday Sermons that airs Sunday mornings with sidekick Justin Gaard.[8]
Barreiro has quickly developed into one of the Twin Cities' best and most influential radio personalities. His shows are often guest-intensive with credible guests such as author Vince Flynn,[9] WCCO-TV political wonk Pat Kessler,[10] the late colonel David Hackworth, ESPN baseball analyst Tim Kurkjian and senator Norm Coleman.
Barreiro has attempted to balance sports and politics on his "three hour tour" and often sparks more interest from listeners when he talks politics than sports. When he does talk sports, there's a possibility you'll hear him criticize Star Tribune columnist Sid Hartman, former University of Minnesota football coach Glen Mason or Minnesota Timberwolves General Manager Kevin McHale. Regular guests on the show include Vince Flynn, Stu Taylor, Lester Munson, Tim Kurkjian, Torii Hunter,[11] Pat Kessler, Joe Califano, Rick Majerus, Lou Nanne and Kevin Seifert. The show is also known to frequently feature humorous call in segments with eccentric die hard Green Bay Packers fan Carl Gerbschmidt. Perhaps the signature segment of Barreiro's show is his "We're Done As A Society" bit that he features every Friday at 6:05.
On November 8, 2007, rumors were surfacing in local Twin Cities newspapers regarding a potential move down the dial for Barreiro to AM 1500 KSTP. However, Barreiro had been in contract talks with Clear Channel regarding a long term extension at KFAN, and he did acknowledge the situation by stating "We're letting the process play out, I'll just leave it at that."[12] Barrerio's lucrative offer from KSTP was finally matched by Clear Channel on November 28, and Dan will be staying with KFAN for the long term.[13]
The Sunday Sermons program will be ending April 6, 2008; the following Saturday, April 12, Barreiro will begin a new two-hour Saturday morning show (10 a.m. to noon) on KTLK-FM 100.3. Barreiro plans for the new show to be "almost exclusively non-sports," and will likely be similar to the current Sunday morning show.[14] Barreiro will remain on KFAN weekday afternoons.
