i have been a proud student at Greig City Academy for 7 years during my time I have witnessed the school develop and change from St David's and St Katherines to the first city academy. I studied three A-levels: Theatre Studies, Media Studies and Psychology. These subjects helped to develop a rounded range of knowledge and practical skills which I use both within and outside the school environment, for the benefit of myself (in job interviews) or for the benefit of others in my work with other students in drama productions. At university I intend to study for a degree in Drama Stage Management or a Drama related course. The combination of my subjects developed various skills which I feel are relevant to. Psychology has made me more analytical of different people and groups of peoples' wider circumstances. This is essential to know for Drama, as when getting into 'role' I need a good understanding of how people have arrived at their situation in life. When acting out my A-level production I had to empathise with those caught up in the Russian Beslan siege. Psychology helped me to do this. The study of Media has been of more use to me in terms of decision making. I have developed an understanding of how to get messages of different types across to differing audiences and how to formulate messages to provoke a specific response. I learnt about cinematography which I could integrate in my career as a performer / stage manager. I feel that my confidence has grown and my personality has been highlighted to each and every one I meet. I feel that if I'm in a sad state and I go on a stage I'm happier because I'm able to put myself in another person's shoes and I would enjoy seeing my audience applaud me and therefore I lived for drama,So at 15 years old I applied for drama school, I gained a placed at a private school called Stage Coach. The chance to receive coaching in areas of drama which I do not usually tend towards helped to broaden my Drama education. I received tuition in singing and dancing- including street dancing. Throughout that year I took part in several auditions where I played in numerous roles in school and out of school. These included the school's first every productions since it was established and we performed Godspell and Blues Brothers. It was in these that I increasingly took on the role of a mentor to the younger students in the school as I helped them one to one with their lines and their stage direction. At Mount View I had a further opportunity not just to attend workshops, but also to learn from my peers and more experienced actors who had very different styles to myself. One of my major awards is my Jack Petchey certificate for outstanding achiever in year 11. This was an award for both academic attainment and effort. After completing Stage Coach I concentrated on my GCSEs. Throughout that year I learnt about different Drama theorists, such as Brecht and Rudolph Laban and Stanislavski to name a few. I study Shakespeare plays and I even had the opportunity to go to see several interpretations of his work, not to mention his birthplace. In my last year I learnt directing skills, which I enjoyed because I was able to put into practice all the methods I have researched upon throughout my first year. I work well under independently or guidance and I because I have good leadership and communication skills I worked extremely well with my group. In my Sixth Form A-level Drama group I have found myself leading not just the performances but also the conception and planning of the performances. Indeed the script of two of the plays was largely conceived by myself, and I was able to draw in other students to suit their personal strengths. I am a dedicated student of Drama. I sincerely believe that I have reached the stage in my education where I am ready to complete a degree in Drama. My ultimate wish is to do profession inDrama, or pursue a career as a Drama teacher.
