Talk:Damrak

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I would question the etymology given for the name "Damrak". "Rak" is a Dutch word which has a meaning something like "stretch of water where boats can be moored. Therefore giving the meaning to be "mooring place at the dam". This would also be logical given the use of the area throughout the earlier centuries of the city. "Rak" is also part of placenames in the Netherlands which weren't in the Frisian sphere of influence. Bikerams 19:28, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
