Damek is a fictional character in from the American television show Blade: The Series. He is portrayed by Brent Stait. Damek is the last pureblood vampire from the House of Armaya.

[edit] Background

Damek is a pureblood vampire, meaning he was born a vampire. In the Blade universe, pureblood vampires rule the 12 Houses. The Armayans were removed from the ruling council 100 years ago after Damek led a rebellion and attempted to seize control of the council for himself. After he was defeated, the Armayans were declared exiles, with no representation in the vampire world. They became fractured and disorganized, despite having the support of some of the remaining houses.

After his exile from the council, Damek landed in Detroit, where he began running organized crime. He was shaking down local merchants for protection money when he met Marcus Van Sciver, who had recently immigrated from England with his wife Isabel. When Marcus refused to pay him protection money, Damek killed Isabel. He then sealed Marcus in a casket and had him delivered to some vampire savages who fed on him and ultimately turned him into a vampire.

100 years later, the House of Chthon (led by Marcus Van Sciver) began using Armayan vampires to test the Aurora Project. Hundreds of Armayans died at the hands of Marcus before an escaped vampire met with Damek and told him what was happening. Damek immediately demanded a meeting with Marcus and Charlotte, a Chthon pureblood. At the meeting, Damek demanded to be reinstated to the vampire ruling council, and get a percentage of the profits from Aurora. Backed into a corner, the House of Chthon relented and gave Damek what he had demanded. After several weeks, Damek became unhappy and wanted more. Damek arranged a meeting with Marcus where he demanded a cut of all the House of Chthon's business dealings. He told Marcus he was a pureblood and would take whatever he wanted. Enraged, Marcus assaulted Damek and they fought in Marcus' office. The fight lasted for several minutes before Marcus took the upper hand, badly burning Damek. Damek taunted Marcus about Isabel, telling Marcus he didn't even remember her. Marcus finally beheaded Damek with a tomahawk.

After Damek's death, Marcus blamed the bombing of Charlotte's plane on retaliation from the House of Armaya.

[edit] Trivia

  • Pureblood vampires have the ability to regenerate from birth, yet Damek clearly has a scar on his forehead that is shown in several episodes. The scar is also seen in the flashback scenes to 100 years earlier. This discrepancy is not explained in the show.
  • Damek's name was likely inspired by a character of demonic origin in the comic series that films were based on, also named Damek.
