Damania is a last name for specific community within Indian subcontinent.
The origin of last name "Damania" is based on the small village called "Daman" in state of Gujarat within India. The original people from Daman were given the last name as "Damania". This last name is largely seen in two communities, one is "Parsi" who came from Iran to India ages ago and settled in Daman and near by villages like Navasari and Vapi. The second community is the original residents of the Daman who were famous for their Ship building skills. This carpenter community worship "Vishvakarma", the god of architecture (called "Sthapatya kala" in Sanskrit).
The Damania last name became very famous in India when a domestic airline and shipping company was started by Parvez Damania.
Persons from Daman village, now a town, were at former times referred to in the Gujarati language of the region as "Daman-na" or "from Daman". This got adopted/adapted to Damania. The surname is found among the Parsis and the Gujarati Hindus.
