Damallsvenskan 2008 |
The Damallsvenskan, "ladies' all-Swedish", is the highest division of women's football in Sweden. It is also referred as to the women's Allsvenskan, this term being used alone to refer to the men's division.
The division consists of a league of 12 teams. There is a relegation system in place with the Swedish Women's Division 1, which is split into Northern and Southern sections. The two lowest ranked teams in the league are relegated and replaced by the winners of the two Division 1 leagues.
The women's division was first held in 1973. The Damallsvenskan is considered to be the best women's league, since the American league went bankrupt. In the Damallsvenskan you find players like Marta, Daniela, Nadine Angerer and Hanna Ljungberg.
