User:Dalbury/What to do with a dead horse

This is an essay; it contains the advice and/or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. It is not a policy or guideline, and editors are not obliged to follow it.

Reasoned arguments are always worth contributing to a discussion. Such contributions help other editors judge consensus on an issue. Well constructed arguments, grounded in existing policies and guidelines, may even cause other editors to modify their positions. However, no matter how brilliant the prose or how lucid the exposition of policies, guidelines and logic, it is highly unlikely that anyone will be swayed by the argument by the third time it is repeated in the same discussion. That is the time to find another horse to beat.
