[edit] cowboys

1 feb 07 Dallas Cowboys article has been heavily vandilised, needs attention.

An anon user has created an article on Michael Irvin. I've wikified it, but it needs attention from someone who knows the team/player. Elde 02:34, 1 Feb 2004 (UTC)

they don't have the most wins in the 1990's. For 1990-1999, Cowboys: 101 regular season wins + 12 playoff wins, 49ers: 113 regular season wins + 9 playoff wins. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Itishardtofindausername (talk • contribs) 05:50, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Current Staff Articles/Stubs

Calling all future sports writers... Due to the burgeoning new staff additions this offseason, this section is full of coaches without articles. So head over to Pro Football Reference and compose an original paragraph or two... let's show the new Cowboys crew some Wikipedia love. (J.A.McCoy 02:43, 27 February 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Choice of jerseys

I deleted the following phrase from a previous version of this article: "Opposing teams sometimes intentionally wear their white jerseys when playing the Cowboys at home (when they do not do so normally) in order to force the Cowboys to utilize this latter jersey."

As far as I know, according to NFL rules, the home team always chooses which jersey they will wear, and the visiting team has to put on the opposite. (Zzyzx11 02:31, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC))

    • In reference to this, I believe the passage merely needs to be cleaned. Most teams wear a colored jersey at home and a white jersey on the road. When playing the Cowboys, many teams will wear white at home to force the Cowboys to wear their "road blues". In most instances, the Cowboys will wear white (when able).--129.118.249.239 12:38, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The reason the Cowboys don't often wear their "road blues" is those jerseys (at least during the 60's & 70's) are/were considered to be "bad luck."

Here's the story of the jerseys: Prior to the beginning of the NFL season, each home team must choose the uniform they will wear for each home game, so the visiting team can plan accordingly, and this selection takes place soon after the schedules are announced in the spring. Cowboys management in the 1960s thought it would be a novel idea if they wore their white jerseys at home, so Dallas fans could see visiting teams wear their home (usually dark) uniforms in Dallas. Because most NFL teams wear dark jerseys at home, this meant that Dallas wore white most, if not all, of the season and players were comfortable wearing white when they were the visiting team. Since part of the advantage of being at home is to make the visiting team nervous, other NFC East teams tried (and still try) to get an edge on the Cowboys by forcing them to wear their dark blue jerseys when Dallas plays those teams in their home stadiums. It's not _really_ bad luck when they wear the dark jerseys - it's more an effort of the other teams to throw the Cowboys out of their comfort zone. ddlamb 04:28, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

  • If anybody can find credible sources to cite to verify when they started wearing white at home, the reason why, and the supersition that the blue jerseys are jinxed, it will be appreciated. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:42, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

You're not going to find a source to cite for this, it was just a fan thing and a commentator thing back in the '70s. It's kind of impossible to qualify as well as quantify a jinx. It was well known at the time though. Being a fan myself, I remember when I was a kid in the '70s and I hated seeing the Cowboys wearing their blues. Eventhough I thought they looked cool I bought into the jinx when I was a kid.

    • a win-loss record by jersey type would be nice too, if such a thing exists. Simishag 03:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cheerleaders

Nothing here about the famous cheerleaders? PedanticallySpeaking 16:22, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

I created an article for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. I added a "See also" section. I looked, and couldn't see any place it could be worked into the main body. --rob 09:09, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
I just assumed there would be something, even a cross-reference here. I see from your edit to James T. Aubrey you found why I came to this article in the first place. PedanticallySpeaking 14:53, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Not to be forgotten - suggestions

There are some really questionable players on the Not to be forgotten list, such as Quincy Carter and Joey Galloway. I just wanted to post a request for comments before removing them. Thanks.

PS: Half-joking and half-serious, I would love to add George Teague - even though he only played 4 yrs for us. He was the only Cowboy to defend the Star that day T.O. disrespected it.

I agree, Carter and Galloway never did crap for us, so they don't belong on the list. I too would like to see Teague on there though, since that one action of blasting B.O. gave him more Cowboys immortality than some people that have played 10 years with the team, as evidenced by the fact that we're still talking about him here. I say, go with all the changes you mentioned.Tommstein 07:27, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
Quincy Carter was the first quarterback to take the boys to a playoff game since Troy Aikman. So, "never did crap for us" is an understatement. cerebralshrike 09:44, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
I think that players on "Not to be forgotten" should address players not fully covered in the main article, personally. -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 10:11, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

I added Harvey Martin and Charlie Waters, two glaring oversights. If Cliff Harris is here, Waters needs to be here too, and I can't believe a Super Bowl XII co-MVP like Martin (with White) isn't anywhere on this list or in this article. Preston Pearson, Bob Breunig, and Butch Johnson deserve consideration also. On the other hand, at least Drew Pearson is here already; in this fan's opinion he deserves to be in ROH before Irvin. (Not _instead_ of Irvin - just before.) ddlamb 05:03, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

I updated and added biographies for a few players, plan to do more. I don't really like the fact that our Hall of Famers and "not forgotten" players are listed on the main page, but our Ring of Honor recipients are not. I had a hard time finding the link to the ROH page, so I tried to punch it up a bit. Hope I didn't step on anyone's toes. --Timdstone 16:01, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

I put together my list of suggestions and think maybe there should be a "Other noteworthy players" section. Cornell Green DB (4 time All Pro/5 time Pro Bowler at 2 positions!) Dexter Coakley LB (All Pro 99, 2 time Pro Bowler) Bob Breunig LB (3 time Pro Bowler) Frank Clarke WR (All Pro 64, first DC 1000 yd. receiver) Preston Pearson RB (NFL's 1st 3rd down specialist) Efren Herrera K (Cowboy's 1st All Pro/Pro Bowl Kicker) Rafeal Septien K (easily Cowboy's greatest kicker) Dave Manders C (first Cowboy O-Lineman in Pro Bowl) John Niland G (6 Pro Bowls) Ralph Neely T (2 Pro Bowls/4 time All Pro) Pat Donavan T (4 Pro Bowls) Herb Scott G (3 Pro Bowls/3 time All Pro) Then there here are some "other notables" Craig Morton QB Already has wiki bio as does Gary Hogeboom I'd move Alonzo Highsmith into this category --Timdstone 16:53, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Is Fred Strickland's Cowboy career notable enough to be mentioned here? --Timdstone 03:14, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fan club sites

Is it really appropriate to put a bunch of independent fan club sites in the external links section? I would think this should be limited to the club's site and other "official" pages. Simishag 01:59, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Conspiracy Theories

I just put up a section on the supposed anti-Dallas bias in the HoF. It's my first Wikipedia post, let me know what you guys think. I thought it was an appropriate note. Maybe it should be moved to the "Not Forgotten" section? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bobsagat (talk • contribs) .

I really don't understand what you're trying to convey here that every football fan doesn't feel about his/her team. Everyone claims bias. Everyone claims "home cooking". The team with the most amount ofg players in the HoF will still say that's not enough.
You write: The most notable among the three is Pearson, who has campaigned to raise awareness in NFL circles about the supposed Anti-Cowboys prejudice. This is interesting, but where's the proof? I Googled around and couldn't find much. Plus, how impartial is a Dallas Cowboys who is not in the Hall going to be? If we could find some non-Cowboys players/workers, then maybe we'll have something. Jennifer 22:54, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
There are no sources, so I am going to remove that paragraph. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 23:42, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How about "Notable Moments"?

Because let's face it, fans - any Cowboys fan w/i the last ten years practically hold our hands over our hearts when George Teague is mentioned. We can argue if he's a NTBF candidate, but he's certainly a favorite.

Other suggestions: Leon Lett showboatting during Super Bowl XXVII, Jason Chris Boniol and his golden foot (7 field goals in a single game!- Billy Cundiff would match it) and...SCORING! IN! THE! SNOW! (gets all teary-eyed) Rattlerbrat 15:04, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

    • You again. Why am I not surprised? Rattlerbrat 17:22, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
      • Well for one, as an admin on this site, I feel obligated that all of the rules and policies are followed, or else this site may suffer another incident like the John Seigenthaler Sr. Wikipedia biography controversy. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:30, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
      • OH NOEZ!! NOT AN ADMIN!!!!11111 I think I figured that out already. As for rules and policies, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that if it broke a record, or made national headlines (such as Teague vs. Owens), or one play changed the outcome of the entire game - ESPECIALLY a playoff/championship game (Hail Mary passes, long field goal kicks, etc) then it's notable. Not good, not bad, simply notable. Not everything on that list is glorifying a Cowboys victory. The only one that doesn't fit that criteria is the "score in the snow" recap, which is more or less just a thing among Cowboys fans - I'm happy to remove it if it offends someone who isn't you. Or you can just do it yourself, for all I care.
      • BTW, it isn't lost on me that you didn't slap that cute little dispute template over the "not to be forgotten" part of this entry just because I didn't bother jumping through hoops over a silly picture. Rattlerbrat 17:41, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

You exadurated a little on the effect of that ice storm against the dolphins, after all its not that much rare for an occurence like that to happen in Dallas in late fall. Are we forgetting we live in North Texas where cold weather is what happens in the winter, you sound like someone from florida whos never seen ice before.

Here's a notable moment that really SHOULD be added...

Dallas is the 1st #1 seed to lose in a semi since the current 12 team playoof format was adopted in 1990. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.62.209.10 (talk) 16:07, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] This is getting lonnnnng...

Is it time to start breaking this up into smaller articles, or is it okay as it is? If we can start breaking, I'd LOVE to have an article on the Dallas/Washington rivalry. I know we have our spats with other teams (Philly, NY, etc), but the Cowboys and the Redskins are the Hatfields/McCoys of football! OH SNAP WE ALREADY HAVE ONE!! Jennifer 07:05, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Hatfield and McCoy's of football? Well since the Hatfields and McCoys are Steeler fans (West Virgina has 13 Steeler stations) I think the Browns/Steeler rivalry is a more apt comparison.  :) just a word from someone that bleeds that ole' black and gold, nice Cowboys article by the way (boy I'm glad I'm a Steelers fan :P)Hholt01 08:13, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Colors

is silver-green an official color. I have doubts.

No, it's not. Well on the Cowboys uniforms at least. :P --Shizane 16:14, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely not. Removed. LoomisSimmons 07:53, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Not sure if this statement at the end of the first paragraph can be considered encyclopedic: "which is fucking awesome!" It may need to be deleted.

I just removed a few things in this article, a lot of the names had "blows" appended to them. Also, there was a line that said "Jerry Jones sucks T.O.'s cock." While I'm no Cowboys fan, I think this page could use one of those vandalism disclaimers.

I removed the claim to be the "best damn team ever", should this have a vandalism tag?--Patrickneil 19:22, 3 October 2006 (UTC) NO THE COWBOYS ARE THE BEST TEAM EVER.... THEY HAVE WON THE MOST SUPERBOWLS AND ARE COMING BACK TO POWER

I noticed that the whole page was deleted and replaced by, "WHO CARES ABOUT THE DALLAS COWBOYS!?!?!"--Ka-Ris

I agree about the Vandalism disclaimer, since the Cowboys are pretty much one of the most loved or hated teams in sports I think it's a site that will often get vandalised. I guess you could say that the Cowboys are an equivolent to the Yankees you either love them or hate them. One more thing I also added Larry Browns name to the list of players who made contributions that arent on in the Hall of Fame or the Ring of Honor. I figured he was such a pivotal player in Super Bowl XXX that he should be named. I also figured Teague was a big contributer and not only famous for what he did to Owens but also as a solid safety alongside Darren Woodson. ETod09 22:45, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Someone deleted the season by season record and put in its place: "DALLAS SUCKS!!! PERIOD!! NO ONE CARES ABOUT THEIR HISTORY! DALLAS SUCKS!" I'm not sure how to revert it so I would ask that someone else do it please. Looks like the vandalism is becoming a problem though.

Someone keeps trying to slip "tony homo" in where it reads Romo, most recently in the current roster. I fixed it. cerebralshrike 2:07, Feb 2007 (UTC)If you vanalize on the cowboys page you suck go cowboys

I just deleted "Dallas Cowboys are the worst team in the NFL" at the beginning. Jun 2007 Watermaren 15:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Although sophmoric and very telling of the person who wrote it, "Dallass Cowfags" is not an accepted moniker for the team. It is funny, but I would wager that Cowboy fans don't vandalize other sites. Probably because having another team's name on it is bad enough. It's good to be the king!

[edit] Unsourced

I added an unsourced tag as the article doesn't cite it's sources. Tayquan hollaHard work 12:42, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tony Parrish

I have been making minor edits to the Tony Parrish article. It states:
Tony Parrish (born November 23, 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is an NFL player on the Dallas Cowboys. He plays the strong safety position.
Should he not be included in this article as a present Dallas Cowboys player? Someone want to refer to the phrase 'strong safety' also?User:Brenont 16:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] BLue jerseys jinxed?

I am an ardent Cowboy fan for 40 years. I have never heard of this jinx. There should be some consensus about adding such an asinine section to ANY article. I removed the section until there is consensus. QwazywabbitMsg me 22:10, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blue Jersey Jinks

There are articles from Texas news sportspages in which they describe phone conversations and billboards put up by other NFC Eastern Division owners choosing to wear thier white jersey's at home making the Cowboys wear thier blue ones. As a lifetime Cowboy fan I believed (and still do) believe in the blue jersey jinks. This tho has been replaced by the Jones designed jersey jinks. This is the Thanksgiving Day jersey's designed by Jerry Jones with the big outline star designs on the shoulders. look at the Thanksgiving games played with this jersey. It is cursed, not to mention the ugliest jersey the Cowboys have ever worn. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.240.169.105 (talk) 13:39, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
