Dalston Kingsland station is on the North London Line (NLL). It is located on the Western side of Kingsland High Street (A10) in Dalston, opposite the popular Ridley Road market and is in Travelcard Zone 2. It reopened on 16 May 1983 - a station called 'Kingsland' on the same site had previously closed in 1865 due to the opening of Dalston Junction on the line to Broad Street. Today, the station and all trains serving it are operated by London Overground.

Typical off-peak frequency at the station is four trains per hour westbound to Richmond via Highbury & Islington, Camden Road and Willesden Junction, and four trains per hour eastbound to Stratford, however service intervals here vary from approximately seven minutes during rush-hours to 30 minutes on Sundays.

The NLL is both 25kV overhead AC and 750V third-rail DC powered at this point. The passenger service is operated chiefly by Class 313 electric multiple units (EMUs) which can operate with both systems and change from one system to the other here ("pantograph-up, pantograph-down", depending on direction of travel).

Formerly, trains between Canonbury and Hackney Central ran straight through the site of the station. Dalston was served by trains from either direction running on to the North London Line's City branch calling at Dalston Junction station. That station closed along with the branch when the terminus at Broad Street station closed in 1986. However, Dalston Junction is due to reopen in 2010 following the launch of the London Overground, and Dalston Kingsland will be used as an interchange with that station[1]. The western curve remains and will be reused for the extension of the East London Line to Highbury and Islington station; the eastern curve was removed and is now covered by the car park of Kingsland shopping centre.

In August 2002 a potentially serious railway accident was avoided in the vicinity of Dalston Kingsland when a passenger train was inadvertently diverted onto the goods line during emergency signalling. On reversing to its correct path a following goods train almost ran into the rear of the passenger train.[2].
