Dallastown Area School District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dallastown Area School District is a school district in York County, Pennsylvania. Stewart Weinberg is the current superintendent and has been so since the 2005-2006 school year. The district includes five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.

It was started around 1929 with the combining of a few local one room school houses that were filled with farm children. Most noted was the Keener School House on Iron Stone Hill Road which supplied the most students and was the most popular. Blue and white were chosen as the school's colors with silver as an accent; the wildcat was chosen as the mascot. The district's administration offices, high school, and middle school are located at 700 New School Lane, Dallastown, PA 17313.

Elementary schools in the district include Dallastown Elementary, Leader's Heights Elementary, Loganville-Springfield Elementary, Ore Valley Elementary, and York Township Elementary.

Dallastown Area Middle School has a Red Cross club, a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, a school newspaper, The Wildcat Pawprint, as well as many sports for both male and female students. Dallastown Area High School has many clubs, a few examples are Volunteer, Red Cross, Environmental, and International Clubs. Dallastown boasts one of the best wrestling, tennis, field hockey and golf teams in York County.[citation needed] Their team is part of PIAA triple or quad A, District 3, and York/Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division I. In 2007, all of Dallastown Area High School's fall sports teams went on to compete in District III post-season play.

Dallastown is one of the best funded school districts in the county of York[citation needed] and boasts some of the best state test scores in Pennsylvania.[citation needed] It has made AYP since the NCLB Act of 2001 has set standards and scoring levels for states.[citation needed]
