Coordinates: 25°54′N 87°48′E / 25.9, 87.8 Dalkhola (Bengali: ডালখোলা) is a census town in Islampur subdivision in Uttar Dinajpur district in the state of West Bengal, India.[1]

Dalkhola, earlier a part of Bihar, was included in West Bengal in 1959. The town grew around the Dalkhola 1 & 2 village panchayats and developed into an important centre for trade and commerce because it was well connected by rail and had a railway station to boast of. It is the leading centre for jute and oil trade in Uttar Dinajpur. Dalkhola was granted the status of a municipality in 2003. It is one of the four municipalities in the district. National Highway 34 cuts through the middle of the town to meet NH 31.[2]

As of 2001 India census[3], Dalkhola had a population of 13,891. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Dalkhola has an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 65% and, female literacy is 50%. In Dalkhola, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Decadal growth for the period 1991 to 2001 was 30.41% in Dalkhola, against 28.72 in Uttar Dinajpur district.[4]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84%.[5]
