Dalhousie is a city and a municipal council in Chamba district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India.

Established in 1854 by the East India Company as a summer retreat for its troops and bureaucrats, the town was named after Lord Dalhousie who was the Governor-General of India at that time. Dalhousie is built on and around five hills. It is located on the western edge of the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Dalhousie had a population of 7419. Males constitute 56% of the population and females 44%. Dalhousie has an average literacy rate of 81%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 85% and, female literacy is 78%. In Dalhousie, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
