Dakeng Scenic Area

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dakeng (traditional Chinese: 大坑, Hanyu Pinyin: dàkēng) is the area that contains most of the mountain region of Beitun District, Taichung, Taiwan. Within these mountains is the Guguan Hot Spring, a famous recreational spot. It is located at the starting point of east-west cross express way, 48 kilometer far from FongYuan. Guguan Hot Spring was first discovered around the year 1907, and was originally called MeiJi Hot Spring. It is said that the Japanese MeiJi Emperor had gone there before and afterwards had a son. So it is also famous for helping people to have a son back then.

After the major earthquake on September 21, 1999, a second hot spring containing sodium bicarbonate was discovered near the first.

Dakeng is also home of the Guan Yin Temple on Guan Yin Mountain located near Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology(or CTUST) on Bu Zi Road.

The mountain is a popular hiking trail that takes about twenty minutes to hike to the top.

The top of Guan Yin Mountain offers an extraordinary view of the Bei Tun District.

The Dakeng area is home to a variety of quaint cafes, restaurants and mini escapes like the Dakeng Refuge. The Dakeng Refuge located at the base of Guan Yin Mountain is a small venue where local artists and musicians come together and create.

Dakeng also boasts a significant number of mountain bike trails.
