Daithi Doolan, ia a Cork native, and a current Sinn Féin Councillor on Dublin City Council. He was elected in the South East Inner City electoral area. As Sinn Féin candidate for the South East Inner City, Doolan polled 24% in the 2004 Local Elections, and came second in the poll, having unsuccessfully contested the 1999 Local Elections in the same area.
He also contested the 2002 General Election, scoring 7.4% in the poll in Dublin South East. Subsequently Doolan was involved in controversy, after a Dubliner, Joseph Rafferty, was shot dead. Rafferty's sister, Esther Uzell, claimed that Doolan knew the identity of her brother's killer, claims which Doolan denied. [1] In the 2007 General Election he was opposed by Uzell. He polled 1,599 first preference votes (4.7%) and failed to win a seat, this was part of a general drop in Sinn Féin's vote across the capital. [2]
As environment spokesman he has called for the building of new apartments in the Dublin area to be suspended on public safety grounds [3] and has opposed the creation of an incinerator at Poolbeg. [4]
