[edit] About Dairou

Making his debut in Mortal Kombat: Deception, this Seidan guard-turned-mercenary is neutral. Dairou usually gets the job done as quickly as possible, but there might be some honor left in his cynical heart.

[edit] Storyline

He was once a highly respected Seidan guardsman, much like Hotaru, but he was imprisoned when he attacked and killed the man who he was led to believe murdered his family. In Deception's Konquest mode, Dairou is hired to free Shujinko from prison. In the present, he has been hired by Darrius to steal the constitution of Seido and to kill Hotaru. Dairou fails to kill Hotaru given his appearance in Armageddon.

In Dairou's Mortal Kombat: Armageddon ending, he defeats Blaze and gains a glowing suit of armor. Shao Kahn is enraged and attacks, but Dairou defeats him. He becomes the new ruler of Outworld. Under his rule, Outworld becomes beautiful and majestic like it was before. Convinced of Dairou's peacefulness, Earthrealm and Edenia form an alliance with Outworld that would ensure peace in all the realms.[1]

[edit] Combat characteristics

[edit] Signature moves

  • Tombstone Drop: Dairou falls flat on his back, causing his opponent to fly forward through the air allowing for a combo. (MK:D, MK:U, MK:A)
  • Stealthy Shadows: With a puff of yellow smoke, Dairou switches positions with his opponent. The opponent is momentarily confused (unless they are blocking), allowing for a free hit. (MK:D, MK:U, MK:A)
  • Iron Leg: Dairou sends a three-area energy blast that looks like a shuriken at his opponent from his leg. (MK:D, MK:U, MK:A)
  • Arm Snapper: Dairou grabs his opponent, breaks their arm and launches them onto the ground. (MK:D, MK:U, MK:A)

[edit] Trivia

  • Dairou was originally going to be in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance as a samurai hired by Shang Tsung to protect his palace, but was cut due to time constraints. Initially, depicted as a bloodthirsty samurai that couldn't abide to its code of honor. His weapons would have been dual katanas, and his style was capable of reducing enemies to streaming fountains of blood.
  • Dairou's Tombstone Drop move was deemed too powerful in Deception, due to its speed, the game's sluggish jumping, and a glitch that allows the player to rapidly perform the move by sidestepping. This move, combined with his Iron Leg projectile, made him a "God tier" character. In Armageddon, the jumping has been fixed to be quicker and higher, and the Tombstone Drop has been slowed down tremendously and has been fixed of its glitch. Even with that, Dairou remains one of the most powerful characters.
  • Dairou's design is similar to the Chinese god Erlang Shen, an enforcer of order.
