[edit] History

Daily-Update Publishers was founded in 2000 as an Internet “aggregator” (a gatherer of news and articles) by the current directors, Cameron Russell and Fay Russell. The following year, the Daily-Update Language Institute was established in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The Daily-Update school attracted the best students in Hsinchu (famous as Taiwan’s Silicon Valley), and a second school was soon established.

Daily-Update ESL Publishers was established in 2001 as a Taiwanese company, initially to publish materials for the two schools. A large team of thirty western writers (see below) was commissioned to write the materials. They were either very experienced teachers (including ex-principals and retired teachers) or specialists in their fields (drama, business, elocution, and so on). Another thirty talented computer programmers, web developers, illustrators and layout artists (see below) put the material into book form or created computer games. The materials were then used and refined in the schools before publication.

In February of 2005, Daily-Update launched 33 books at the Taiwan International Book Exhibition, and reprint rights were sold in Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Soon after that, the publishing company was moved to Australia, trading under the company name of Daily-Update Pty Ltd and using the business name of Daily-Update Publishers. The books have since been exhibited in many countries around the world.

In 2007, the company started selling all books as e-books. The following year, Daily-Update Publishers set up a major membership site, DU English Club. Club members were able to download several e-books each month as well as access permanent English resources (updated on a weekly basis).

Also in 2008, the company established Online English College, which guarantees rapid progress in English language learning (an improvement equivalent to half a band in IELTS for each ten weeks of full-time study).
