Dahir Al Omar, an Arab Amir born in Nazareth, ruled the area now known as Palestine in the early 1700s. In Israel there are plaques on Churches and Mosques in Acre that specifically quote "built under the reign of Dahir Al Omar". The Ottoman Empire had him killed.
There are many resources, including a book written in Arabic and English and material at the Haifa University on the subject matter.[1]
