The history of the village is tied up with the kingdom of Venkatagiri. History says that this village has given to a Bhamhin family as a gift by a Venkatagiri king.
Chola Kings constructed Chennakesava Swamy temple between 13 - 14 century.
The village has five lingams of Shiva: one located in each cardinal direction, and one in the village centre. This is why in older times, the village was called "Panchalingala". The village is a panchayath, with board members and a sarpanch.
