Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Jim Krueger. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. I'm curious how this article fails to meet the aforementioned criteria? There are two other notable comic book Websites with wikipedia entries - Comic Book Resources and Newsarama. How does this article differ from those? --Comixfan 06:04, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- You need to have some reliable sources stating why the website is notable - these are the criteria for websites. I'll take a look at those other two entries, but the existence of other articles doesn't automatically a similar one is OK (for example, see WP:FISHING. RJASE1 Talk 06:08, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure where to begin, really. Comixfan has been online for over 10 years now, and in that time has won numerous awards, been spotlighted in several magazines (and, as X-Fan, was part of Cinescape Online and had a regular column in the Cinescape print magazine), has had reviews quoted in publications by major publishers, and its owner/operator (ie, me) is now a freelance writer with Marvel Comics thanks entirely to the site's reputation. - An article needs to be written citing those sources for notability. However, if you run the site yourself, it would be a really bad idea to write the article yourself - that's a conflict of interest. I am not making the site out to be anything that it's not in the article. Follow the links to the Wayback Machine and you can see the site's reputation as part of Fandom and as part of Cinescape. As far as running the site goes, I no longer do so as stated in the article; however, I do still own the site, so I can see how that might be considered a conflict of interest.
At any rate, I hope this article is retained, as the site is most assuredly important insofar as the history of comic book websites goes at the very least. --Comixfan 06:26, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- I understand - I don't believe there's any bad faith on your part.
- Just a heads-up - you may have to change your username because of this policy; your current username can be seen to be promoting the website. I know that all these policies can be annoying when you first start with Wikipedia - but it's one of the few things keeping the site from being overrun with vanity pages and spam. If the admins decide not to delete the article, don't hesitate to drop a note on my talk page to ask for any help you need. RJASE1 Talk 06:54, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, how does one change their username? I checked on the my preferences page but couldn't find such an option.
I'm just finding this whole thing somewhat strange, especially given the push being made for WikiProject Comics, espousing it to be "a collaborative effort to build a comprehensive and detailed guide to comics on Wikipedia", and yet here we are discussing why an article on one of the most long-lived and prominent comic book websites shouldn't be deleted! --Comixfan 06:57, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I've put in a request to change my username to Daelf1969 [1].
As for other sources, nothing that I can think of that's as concrete as what the WP:WEB criteria requires. I don't really go chasing awards or reviews for the site, and the only ones I do have are years old and no longer apply to the site's current incarnation.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my heads is that the site hosts the official discussion forum for Marvel Comics' Official Handbook writers (of which I'm one), and as such the site link is listed in each issue of the current Handbooks and is linked to from Marvel.com's Handbook page as well. Not overly concrete, but it serves to showcase the site's reputation (as not any site would get approval to be featured in such a publication). --Comixfan 07:18, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
