User talk:Daedalus969/Roland Nicholson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have moved the article here to my userspace so that the creators may work on aquiring the sources of the information without having to worry about the aricle deletion. Once said sources are found, I shall then move the article back to the Wikipedia namespace.Dædαlus T@lk\→quick link 06:16, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
ROLAND NICHOLSON has been a leading spokesperson on the issue of capital punishment in the US and internationally. I have students who are doing research on the issue of capital punishment in the US and around the world. I am not the only teacher in this part of the world who has students involved in this work. My understanding was that Wikpedia was an encyclopedia that makes lfe easier. If I ask my pupils about a subject I don't want to spoonfeed them but I don't want to make it more difficult for them to pursue a topic. Is the anything I and my fellow teachers can do to restore the ROLAND NICHOLSON article?
- Yes. First, read all the tags the article has been tagged with. It has been nominated because it does not establish the notability with the individual, nor does it cite any third-party sources. WP does not operate on original research. The sources cited for the information must be a third party that can easily be verified by others, such as a newspaper article, a book, a news channel, etc.— Dædαlus T@lk\→(quick link) 07:43, 14 March 2008 08:48, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Daedalus, I am fairly new to Wiki. but I attended a lecture that Roland Nicholson delivered on democratic elections recently in Xian, China. Inasmuch as I have read articles in magazines and newspapers that cited his work, have seen on him Sinovision and the BBC and I am a third party I do not understand. User:Shanghai Defender
- No, you are not a third party, a third party would be listed as a news source, and, although you attended a lecture in China, the newspaper that listed such an event would only be allowed as a source if it was in english, as this is the english wikipedia. You say you've read several articles about him in magazines and newspapers? Those would count as third party sources. Just find the issue, or the date of the issue, and cite it as per the information that is written in the article. In case that did not make sense, try this: If Information A is found in Article C, then references to Article C must be made after Information A is listed.— Dædαlus T@lk\→(quick link) 07:43, 14 March 2008 06:13, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Daedalus, I hope Shanghai Defender understands your comment because it was very clear to me.
Roland Nicholson used to work here at the State Capitol in Albany. We still call upon him from time to time for advice and counsel and I am certain Governor Patterson will continue to do so. I think that some of the articles that Shanghai Defender makes reference to can be found in the New York Times, The South China Daily (an English Language paper), The Peoples Daily and the Times of London. Date Ranges July 24, 1984 through November 3, 2007. There may be more but these are ones that come to me off the top of my head. I hope this helps. Keep up the good work.

- It helps to know that said sources exist, however, they must be verifable, meaning that other users can find the issue in question and see that it is the same information listed in this article. It is the job of whoever inserted the information to provide the sources. Yes, I am trying to help, but if the creator of the article wants it to stay, they have to do the work, not others. Links to the articles through the newspapers' websites, or newspaper/tv tracking websites will have to be made for the citations. Please see WP:CITE for help on creating citations, and why citations would be created.Dædαlus T@lk\→quick link 19:23, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
DO NOT DELETE
I have found additional sources going back to October 1969 in the Baltimore Sun and the Baltimore Afro American Newspaper. Should I include those? It appears taht Roland Nicholson was a football player and runner. Should those articles be included? Ditto for news about his campaign for congress/legislature. Ona can access the latest Fortune Society Annual Report on line. It has photographs and aticles, etc. listing Roland Nicholson, Jr., Esq as chairman. I have learned that he may have temporiarily taken his leave from Fortune because he was recalled to military duty as a result of the Iraq war. Should citations appear as:
NEW YORK CITY STARRTS ENFORCEMENT OF DROUGHT RULES, Emergency Drought Director Roland Nicholson has informed the press that...
New York Times, July, 1985.
Additionally, It also appears that "Roland Nicholson", "Roland Nicholson, Jr.", "Ron Nicholson" and Nick Nicholson are one in the same.. I am new to Wiki and I appreciate your assistance. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Guyana Barrister (talk • contribs) 12:02, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
