[edit] Improvisational Comedy
Aside from being Atlanta's local Theatersports franchise, the Dad's Garage ensemble has developed a number of improv formats:
Night School is a showcase of newer improvisers, performed every week as the first half of Thursday night's "Improv Revolution".
Murder She Improvised is a longform format where a murder occurs early in the show. The remainder of the show is an exploration of what happened, why, and by whom. An investigator (or investigators) determines the murderer in the final scene, pulling together all the arbitrary clues created throughout the show.
Improvolution is a longform narrative format stretching over several shows where traits of characters (or "mutations") are suggested by the audience. Characters ill suited for survival are "perished" by audience decree at the end of each show, whereas favored characters "evolve" and return the next week to continue their plotlines.
B.R.A.W.L. is a high-energy improv format created by Travis Sharp and Scott Warren that simultaneously parodies and pays homage to professional wrestling. The weekly performances are episodic, with storylines continuing from one week to the next. The show is unique in that it is cast with a combination of professional improvisers and professional wrestlers.
Good vs. Evil pits God against Satan in improvised scenes that deal with morality and religion. God and the devil take turns directing "souls" in various scenarios, and based on which scene is better the audience determines if the scenes are "saved" or "damned." At the end of the show, based on their performance, either God or Satan wins. If God wins, the audience gets to go to heaven when they die. If Satan wins, they are doomed to Hell.
[edit] Improv Classes
Dad's Garage hosts four improv classes, four times per year, for aspiring improv actors or anyone who wants to have fun. The seasoned veterans of the troupe also teach classes and workshops at events such as KCACTF and SETC.
[edit] Awards
Dad's Garage has won numerous awards over the years, including five consecutive wins as Creative Loafing's Best Theatre and Best Improv Troupe. The theatre has won similar awards from several other Atlanta publications.
