The Dacian tribes had as a coat of arms a special flag: a wolf head with a leather snake body. The wind passing through the wolf mouth and amplified by the snake body produced a terrifying sound in battle. Every tribe had a different metal for the wolf head: the Appuli had a golden wolf head, other tribes had a silver head, an iron head or a bronze head. The tribes were united by Boerebista (around 80-44 B.C.).
