[edit] Help
How do I judge articles based on importance or quality when applying tags to talk pages?
- Generally, a multitude of factors should be taken into account; flow of prose, amount and distribution of sources, verifiability and reliability of sources, etc. There are many pages on these; in a nutshell, the following four should help you on your quest.
- Category:Wikipedia style guidelines
- Category:Wikipedia how-to
- Wikipedia:Article development
- Wikipedia:The perfect article
- Hope that helps! Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP!☺ 00:00, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Administrator?
{{helpme}} I've always wanted to know... how do you become an administrator? I would like to try being an admin one day, but I wish to know how much experience I would need on Wikipedia, and what requirements are there to become an admin. Thanks a bunch for reading this. Dabbydabby (talk) 22:35, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- You can have a look at Wikipedia:Administrators and Wikipedia:New admin school, . Cheers. Mion (talk) 22:48, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] 0.9999999999999999999999999999............
Technically, it's a proper redirect to 0.999..., but it's very unlikely someone will type that to find that article. That's why I tagged it under CSD R3, redirects from an unlikely typo. Kesac (talk) 23:36, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Removed FAC
Please see the instructions on the WP:FAC page regarding notification of principle editors prior to nominations. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:44, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- "Before nominating an article, nominators may wish to receive feedback by listing it at Peer review. Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FAC process. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the article should consult regular editors of the article prior to nomination." SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:15, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Changes without consensus
I have reverted your change on Talk:George W. Bush because it requires consensus, and opened a thread for discussion: Talk:George W. Bush##WPBS_versus_WPB. Please discuss your reasons for the possible change before doing it again and not make the change until sufficient consensus has been determined. -MBK004 00:25, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] County Route S18 (California) DYK
Hi Dabbydabby. I've removed your contribution to the upcoming Did You Know template, for several reasons:
- Article hooks should be posted at Template talk:Did you know for discussion beforehand, and so editors can choose articles from a range of topics for the update.
- Adding an article you've nominated yourself is generally discouraged, to maintain transparency and avoid conflict of interest. (You're free to nominate it yourself at the above page, but leave the actual adding to someone else.)
- The article doesn't seem to have been expanded by quite fivefold in the last five days. While this rule is flexible, it's probably best again to leave such a decision to editors who haven't worked on the article.
- Finally, your hook stated that the route "is one of the few county routes in Orange County that are signed..." The references given showed that it was signed, but not that only a few such routes are. Obviously, since DYK is on the main page we have to follow a fairly stringent citation standard.
Sorry about that, and I hope you understand. Since your improvement of the article happened today and yesterday you still have a few days during which it will be eligible for DYK, so I encourage you to address the above comments and post it for consideration. You may want to check the other DYK rules, too. Let me know if you have any questions. Olaf Davis | Talk 22:02, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry about this; this is the first time I'm nominating an article to DYK. I'll see what I can do to follow its instructions, but please don't blame me if I'm doing something wrong because sometimes I misinterpret them. Dabbydabby (talk) 22:04, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- That's no problem; we all make mistakes sometimes. Like I said, don't hesitate to ask if you want some of the rules clarified - or there's a list of admins working on DYK on the page I linked above, who you can ask. Olaf Davis | Talk 22:14, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for all the information. I will ask you questions related to DYK if anything comes up. However, I do have one question at the moment. You suggested I should nominate County Route S18 to the talk page of DYK. I inserted my nomination in the May 17 slot because that was the last day I made an expansion to the article (today I just made some fixes). Am I doing this correctly so far? I'm sure by this point the DYK members can take it from there. Dabbydabby (talk) 22:20, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, that should be OK. I'd also recommend watching the nomination page in case someone comes up with an objection / comment to your nom. Good luck! Olaf Davis | Talk 12:58, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Moving
Why are you moving pages and immediately moving them back? --NE2 14:40, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Then you should create the redirects, not move the page. There's really no point to a talk page redirect though. --NE2 00:13, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Don't move the pages; it adds excess revisions and takes more processing time. --NE2 00:17, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
You can move over a manually created redirect too... try it on some pages in your user space. --NE2 00:20, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Zelda
Hi Dabby, I've been working to address your comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Zelda Fitzgerald. The article now provides access to I believe 8 different Web sources, and also incorporates references to books, journals, collections and a newspaper article too. --JayHenry (talk) 05:16, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
I still believe that the article needs more internet sources still, but I see you have been working hard to find reliable sources. I will not change my vote to support; however I crossed out my oppose vote. Good luck on having the Zelda article reach FA status! Dabby (talk) 23:06, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Major intersections
Why did you revert my edits, such as to California State Route 168? --NE2 14:39, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
If a list contains exit numbers, it is an exit list. Adding this was my original idea, and evidently an anonymous user finished my job. Dabby (talk) 23:20, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Numbered exits are major intersections... --NE2 01:16, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
So consider this: you believe that exit 18B - Lincoln Avenue on California State Route 29 - is a major intersection? If you ask me, it's just a street that's not notable. Dabby (talk) 01:31, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's major by being an interchange. --NE2 01:54, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Work on project template for WP:Chem
Hi Dabby, you worked a bit on the {{chemicals}} template of the WP:Chem wikiproject. I reverted your uncommented edits (why did you do them), and reverted a bit more as an important part of the template had been 'improved' with for some months without anyone repairing it (It is very intricately wrong). Wim van Dorst (talk) 20:03, 11 June 2008 (UTC).
