"Hitman" was Dabo's first album, and it benefited from major-label promotion, such as on-location photo shoots, magazine ads, and music videos. In the album, Dabo's lyrics, body language, and image all illustrate that Japanese hip-hop is merely an imitation of American rap, reinforcing stereotypes about African Americans.[3] In the promotion videos for the album, Dabo is seen driving expensive cars and bragging about being "the gunman in the dark." The imagery he uses is similar to that seen in American hip-hop videos. But because there is not a significant gun culture in Japan, the use of guns in Dabo's videos is more of a fantasy than the reality of gun use that exists in the United States. The images he uses promote the idea of commercial success, as well as giving Dabo a more gangsta image.[4] All of Dabo's albums to date have been titled in English. He does not incorporate Japanese cultural references in to his album titles or album artwork like Uzi Japanese Rapper does. Both artists released albums in 2002 but the differences between the albums are drastic [5] There has been discourse about the Japanese hip hop scene in regards to the 'coolness-factor' of imitating African Americans. According to Wood, dressing and acting as African Americans is considered cool by some Japanese youth and un-cool by others[6]
