[edit] Clive Robertson
Hi, I was not aware of any of the comments about rape, I did not know one thing about that untill you directed me to his page. What i put on the 2UE page was John Kerr said, I did not here clive say anting about it as I do not well didnt listen to him a great deal, as I am only 16 and have to attend school so i try to be a sleep by 12. He may have said something but I did not hear it. There is nothing on the 2UE website about it either infact there is not one trace of him on there anymore.--Binman20 (talk) 09:39, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] M5 Motorway Pic.
Hi, i just want to ask you how did you take that pic of the M5 South Western Motorway. You couldn't have taken it from the overpass because there is a fence there, and im pretty sure its been there for a while. Did you take it from a back of a truck or did you trespass your way to a vantage point? Can you answer? Im eager to know! Roadrunnerz45 04:41, 19 September 2007 (UTC) Nothing shonky. Beaconsfield Street overpass. If there's a fence, I stick the camera lens through the gaps. J Bar 04:47, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry about that
Sorry about that I knew before hand that the Oak Flats to Dunmore is fully NSW Government hands with four lanes to be provided to end a nortorious bottleneck in that area!
It must of been a mistake of me to put two of the same source, sorry about that.
The Herons Creek (2km north of Kew) to Coopernook Project on the Pacific Highway has a cost blow-out to $300 million Contruction to start in mid-2007 with 'approval back in January 2007. SIS and EIS reports on the RTA website.
[edit] Road distances
We tend to use road distances - any method is fair, I tend to use whereis.com but there is the caveat that a reasonableness check is required, as sometimes it does not choose the best or most obvious route. With distances between towns, any decent road atlas marks distances and they rarely disagree with each other by more than a km or two. It's not the *most* encyclopaedic way (per WP:NOR) but I'd maintain that a distance is a distance and it's not going to matter who measures it, it's still an actual distance on the ground that any other person can come along and check. Orderinchaos 08:42, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Karuah (and other) population figures
The ABS figures for whole LGAs are fairly accurate but once you get down to areas within an LGA the ABS Quickstats figures tend to lose relevance as the ABS defined statistical areas often don't match the geographical areas defined by organisations such as the Geographical Names Board, Department of Lands, Department of Local Government or individual councils. This is very true in the case of Karuah.
If you have a look at a map of the localities within the Port Stephens LGA and compare that to the ABS website you'll see what I mean. A map of the Port Stephens LGA showing localities in the Port Stephens LGA is available from the Port Stephens Council website.[1] This is the same information you'll find at the Geographical Names Board website but in a more convenient form. When you look at Karuah on the ABS website [2] the difference should be obvious. The ABS data covers part of the town itself as well as some surrounding areas to the west. The fact that the data doesn't include the parts of Karuah on the eastern side of the river (yes, those houses are part of the town) means that it's not even an accurate representation of just the township itself. If you consider also that areas to the west, which extend right out to the Karuah bypass, are well outside what most people would consider to be the actual town of Karuah then the figure becomes even less representative of just the township and when you examine the Port Stephens Wards & Localities map you'll see that the area that the ABS figures are concerned with represents only a small area within what is actually Karuah.
You can see the discrepancies in other areas within the LGA as well. Take, for example, East Seaham. On the ABS website[3] you see that the data for "East Seaham" covers all of East Seaham, Balickera, Eagleton, parts of Raymond Terrace and Twelve Mile Creek and a tiny section of Ferodale. Another example is Anna Bay[4] which, according to the ABS, covers parts of Williamtown, Salt Ash, Bobs Farm, Anna Bay, One Mile, Nelson Bay and Fingal Bay.
In short, ABS Quickstats is not a good source for population data within the Port Stephens LGA, and probably other areas as well. You need to look at more detailed data within the ABS site or approach Port Stephens Council directly since PSC has already used the ABS data to compile more representative statistics in many areas. There is an option within Quickstats to locate data by CCD which gives you a more accurate result but I find it a bit cumbersome to use.
As for the population figure of 2,000, that was supplied by somebody else. I did make a quick call to the Council and the person I spoke to said that it is probably a better estimate given that geographical Karuah is a lot larger than the area covered by the ABS Quickstats data although it still isn't accurate. For example, he said that it's common for many members of the large Aboriginal community at Karuah not to appear in the census data at all so the actual figure can be hard to pin down. That's why I haven't gotten around to including population figures in the Port Stephens Council articles. --AussieLegend 08:00, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Singleton population
There doesn't seem to be a single figure for the actual town of Singleton. The population is a combination of the figures for multiple areas such as Hunterview (2,087), Singleton - Balance (5,783), Glenridding (174), part of Warkworth (551), part of Camberwell (379), Singleton Heights - Balance (4,776) and Darlington-Singleton (846). It may even include the Singleton Military Area (153). There seems to be some overlap between Darington-Singleton and Warkworth so I don't think you can simply add all the figures together. You'll probably need to look at individual CCDs. The Singleton Council website only seems to give a figure for the whole LGA which extends well beyond the town itself. --AussieLegend 07:07, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tenders
Some tenders are not listed by saying "NOT AN OPEN TENDER" on some projects (eg Sheehan Bridge duplication) I was doing reference checks (in the project field investigations).
It will be EXCELLENT that in 2009; 50% of the Pacific Highway and 96% of the Hume Highway will be dual carriageway!
Do you know of any plans of F3 widening north of Kariong to Somersby, currently only 4 lanes (2 in each direction) when their should be at least 3 in each direction from Wahroonga to Tuggerah interchange????
I am pleased that the F5 widening works will be going ahead in 2009, widening works worth over $150 million south of Brooks Road to Raby Road, then all the way to Narellan Road. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.216.138.134 (talk) 11:51, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re: National Highway
I've been dabbling with SVG maps recently, so I'll probably in the next couple of weeks make a scalable, editable map of the highway network. I knew that current map was outdated as soon as I edited it, because it pre-dates the "AusLink" term. - Mark 10:04, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

- Why make a template for just two divisions (Central and Pacific) and ignore the others? If you make a change, you should make it uniform for all pages. 65.6.108.7 (talk) 18:56, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hunting down vandalism
Thanks - I only had the BOM article on my watchlist, reverted the vandalism there, then checked the user's other contribs. About 70% of the time a user or IP will vandalise only one article, but I find it always pays to check the user's contribs just in case. The user I'm most proud of catching, although it was a while after making the vandalism, was 211.29.234.85|this user - check out my contribs at the time. I am paranoid about my watchlist and have significantly reduced it recently because I used to check every single diff in a 700-page watchlist; this and this caused me to become much more paranoid. I'll try not to tell you to stuff too many beans up your nose. Graham87 04:13, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Standings template
Just a note; whenever you change their position, you must include the coloring bar. You made a mistake with simply switching the Cavs and Bucks, you must include the formula above them. The reason the Bucks were highlighted in the Cavs article was because the formula above the Cavs was the Bucks formula. Remember these for next time, Ok? Thanks SoxrockTalk/Edits 02:39, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Edit stats
I check that page out all the time, to see how I'm going on Wikipedia. It's pretty cool. In September 2005, I was doing spelling corrections of "offical" which dragged my edit count up to unbelievable levels. I actually didn't have Internet access in two days in that month. I think the most number of edits I've made in a day was on a day in August 2006 when I added template:Selected anniversary to the talk pages of all the days. See this contribution list for that. I have sometimes not used edit summaries by accident - my estimate is that I didn't use an edit summary 50 times at most. My earliest edits didn't have an edit summary and this edit didn't have one either (thow I the next one certainly did. I think edit summaries make it so much easier to review a page history - particularly because I can't see changes in diffs as easily as sighted people. Graham87 05:21, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re: NBA season 2007-08
Well, you are right. Being the youngest to score 20,000 is probably not a notable occurrence when we look at the season as a whole. So, feel free to remove it. Chris! ct 01:28, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Carter is on the decline
It's funny, because I was almost tempted to only add the part about his decline. I added his score in that game, because I didn't want to be too biased (I'm a Raptors fan), and I also wanted to keep it neutral. Blackjays1 (talk) 14:53, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Macarthur railway station, Sydney
Before you change the timetable details for Macarthur railway station, Sydney, check the timetable on http://www.131500.com.au which shows that there a local short distance diesel trains that stop at both Macarthur and say Picton or Moss Vale. Longer distance diesel trains such as the XPT (Canberra) and Xplorer (Canberra & Griffith) trains do not stop at Macarthur.
The only recent timetable change is that local trains no longer go past Moss Vale to Bundanoon and Goulburn.

[edit] Uploading photos
I take photos when I can, but depending on your camera there may be an advantage on taking photos when light conditions are good. There is no problem with having people in photos.
There isn't any point in sending me photos, it is better to learn to upload them yourself (once you have them on your computer):
- go to Wikimedia Commons (this is found at the bottom of the main page).
- click upload file. This brings up some quesions
- click entirely my own work
- click browse to find photo your computer
- put in destination file name eg "x railway station" and fill in description and date
- click one of the licensing options (if you don't, photo will get deleted in due course)
- add [[Category:Train stations in Sydney]]
- click upload file
You can then go back to Wikipedia and add the image [[Image:x railway station.jpg]] or in infobox image=x railway station.jpg--Grahame (talk) 06:26, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- Metadata is automatically included in the photo file by the camera.--Grahame (talk) 06:46, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: George W. Bush
I know - it's the most vandalised page on Wikipedia and has been for some time - even by November 2004 it already had 25,000 revisions. George W. Bush is still alive as ever and is still the president of the U.S. ... I don't see the point of full protection of his article. I don't like watching complex articles like that because I'm not so interested in the debates about them. I prefer searching for vandalism to obscure articles - I find it much more rewarding. Graham87 10:28, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] "Friend of" Userbox
I edited your page based on the outcome of this Templates for deletion discussion. One of the norms for userboxes on Wikipedia is that they are moved from the "Template:" namespace to the "User:" namespace if they do not directly relate to editing the encyclopedia or are controversial. This is known as the userbox migration or the German userbox solution because it was a compromise reached after a considerable amount of controversy regarding userboxes and the solution was drawn from the German Wikipedia. Because some editors felt it was a controversial userbox, I moved the template from Template:User friends with to User:Voyagerfan5761/UBX/friends with while leaving the content within the userbox the same. My edit to your page was simply updating {{User friends with}} to {{User:Voyagerfan5761/UBX/friends with}} so that the template would continue to work on your page. I did this on a large number of other editors' pages as well, using an semi-automated editing tool called AutoWikiBrowser. The userbox was ultimately kept due to a lack of consensus in this Miscellany for deletion discussion. I hope this answers your questions. Best, IronGargoyle (talk) 19:43, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Wiki question
Hi J Bar. I have seen that you have taken a lot of pics and are an expert at this, just want to ask you what picture on wikipedia do you think is the most popular as in the number of talk pages it is placed on. take a look at this for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:010105_fireworks2.jpg I was just interested thats all. Thanks Roadrunnerz45 (talk) 11:26, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's interesting to see. I'm not sure how you could find out which photo is most used on wiki articles but I wouldn't be surprised if somebody has come up with a way of doing that. Recently, another contributor told be about a site that keeps a record of the number of hits each article has had. It's quite intersting. The site is at [5] if you want to check it out. J Bar (talk) 22:17, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Editcount
The reason my edit-count is so high is that I'm not daunted when something needs to be changed in many places, and I'm doing a lot of minor fix-ups. For example I tagged 3000 maps of US counties as GFDL, and made a manually checked tidy up to about half the album articles. Most of my edits (90%) are made by User:SmackBot and there are about another 10 bots that have made more edits than my account. I also run up a fair few edits manually testing stuff for SmackBot, and fixing the exceptions that SB can't cope with. Rich Farmbrough, 15:33 5 March 2008 (GMT).

[edit] CityRail Photos
Hi there - thanks for your offer of help - I and the others who have helped with CityRail photos (like J Bar) would really appreciate it. In general I like photos without people, but when you're talking about the CBD it's kind of hard not to take people in the pictures (unless you go in at 5am or something like that, which is unreasonable.) In terms of license I often use {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} (Creative Commons ShareAlike Attribution) - it's what Flickr and other sites use for free-licensed photos. It allows people to attribute the photo to yourself, and only share copies with a similar license to yours. It's not perfect but I don't think any of them are.
I have a list of photos that need taking and stations without photos. J Bar and others have done an excellent job on most of Sydney so it's really only the west, north west and south west of Sydney where photos are lacking (and areas a long way outside of Sydney). The Light Rail stations are nearly all missing photos (except in the Glebe area) and I haven't even drawn up a list of monorail stations so any of them would be helpful too. Go here for the list. Any of the missing ones are a big priority - then all of the photos will need a platform and entrance photo. JRG (talk) 02:16, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know if you can delete your old photos in commons, but I guess {{db=author}} might do it.--Grahame (talk) 10:32, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
The photos are very good. My only comment would be to try and include as much of the platform as possible. All the best getting the rest of the stations. JRG (talk) 05:53, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Great photos - thank you very much - but where is the Menangle Racecourse photo? I specifically put it on the list - did you see it? It's right behind the station, part of it even appears in your photos! Reply here please if you want to. JRG (talk) 12:09, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah you know what, i knew you were going to ask that. i was actually thinking about taking the photo of it from the end of the platform but I was specifically looking for the sign 'menangle racecourse' as you can see on NSWrail.net but maybe in the 6 years after they have demolished it or you have to trespass to look at it. They had something going on at the racecourse so i didn't want to test my luck but maybe i will take the photo of it from the end of the platform. There wont be anything special though, as you said you can see it from the current photo. Thanks Roadrunnerz45 (talk) 12:21, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! Any chance of getting Douglas Park at any stage? - that would complete the line and would be very handy. Whne you have time I mean. JRG (talk) 08:55, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- JRG great to know your back after your wikibreak. Ill see what i can do about that, maybe week after next and i might see what i can do about getting a pic of the Racecourse photo. But the rest, especially the Western line i cant do. Surely there must be someone who lives in that area that can take some pics. Roadrunnerz45 (talk) 09:35, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Mike Carlton
I'm afraid I don't really see it as extreme. His writing style is to ridicule political figures. As for the political spectrum, he is left of centre but not really that extreme. Eg he criticises the NSW Labor party frequently too. Considering there's no use of descriptors like extreme for the host of other Australian commentators, I don't see why we need it in this case. Recurring dreams (talk) 12:19, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's your political point of view, and that isn't really relevant here. Further, I can edit the article as I wish, although I do agree with you that it is fine as it is at the moment. Recurring dreams (talk) 03:28, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Model Farms HS
Re your message: Anybody can issue a warning, not just admins, but I think it would be best to just let things slide for now because the edit occurred awhile ago. The account hasn't made any edits since that one edit and to their user/talk pages. Hopefully it was a one time event. If not, a warning would be appropriate. I rechecked the article history and while there are very few good edits, the vandalism occurs very infrequently so page protection would not be very effective unless set for a long time and that's generally not done for pages that are not vandalized very often. Unfortunately, school articles are just a huge target for students leaving stupid jokes for each other or school rivalries. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 16:56, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Re your message: Thank you for the smiley. =) I do have a large number of edits as that comes with the type of work that I've decided to focus on at Wikipedia. I didn't realize that I was up that high in the edit count list. Interesting. I'm glad to be of help. Thank you. I hate that admin. He's a frickin liberal who puts his politics into all his moderating. He took off something I said bad about Michael Moore (the truth!!!) and he calls it libel and removes it from the talk page.PokeHomsar (talk) 09:45, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Admins
No, its is certainly not required that admins have a userbox or badge on their userpage. As you noted my userpage clearly states that I am an admin, so there is no need for additional clutter. Given that anyone could claim they are an admin by adding a userbox or badge, it would be a very bad idea to rely on a badge or userbox to identify admins. We suffer from people falsely claiming to be admins already; rules on what an admin must do to their userpage would make this a much bigger problem. There isn't even a requirement to have a user page, whether you are an admin or not, let alone what you must put on it.
If you want to know if someone is an admin, look them up on the list of administrtors which is automatically generated and cannot be faked. Gwernol 11:06, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: BV edit
"BV" means "blatant vandalism" or "blatant vandal." The difference is, if somebody blanks half a page and replaced it with something like "Bold text" (for some reason, this is really common), maybe they did it on purpose, or maybe it was a test edit, or maybe they didn't realize what they were doing. Usually people would call it vandalism, but hey, maybe it isn't. On the other hand, if somebody blanks half a page and replaces it with "WIKIPEDIA LIKEZ TO EAT POOP ZOMG WTF", then they probably did that on purpose, and I would call it blatant vandalism ;)
As far as the long block on the IP, you know, it's always a tough call with IPs, because you could be affecting a lot of people who had nothing to do with it. (Or by the same token, if the person causing a problem has a dynamic IP, they could just log on the next day and have a different IP address and the block wouldn't matter) In the case you mention, it was a school IP, which is an even stickier situation. There are lots of legitimate reasons why students would have a need to edit Wikipedia, so you hate to block the whole school. But at the same time, a massive amount of vandalism and other problem edits come from schools.
When a school IP has persistent problems, a one-year block seems to be pretty standard. I figure the admins are thinking that after one year, maybe the troublemakers will graduate or they will be a in a different class (with no computers!) or will otherwise have found something else to occupy their time. heh... Anyway, it's a very tough thing to deal with.
Thanks for the interest, and happy wiki-ing! --Jaysweet (talk) 13:04, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE: A question
Hmm good question. First thing, reverting (also known as rollback) is an administrator tool. That is not to say that I am an admin (like that would ever happen *wink*) I am another normal editor but I aquired it through request for rollback beacuse it would help me with reverting. Well I guess I should answer your original question about the difference. Undo is used to remove a certain edit from the page as long as no other edits have conflicted with the edit. Undo may be used at anytime as long as there are no conflicting edits. Undo can only remove 1 edit. Rollback however, removes the last edit and the ones before it if it was made by the same user, so in short, it reverts to the last edit before the alst editor. However rollback cannot do this if someone else has already edited after the edits (unlike undo). Thats as far as I know on the differences, I prefer to use Rollback because it as an auto edit summary and is very fast. Well I hope this helps.--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions|Guest) 03:04, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: A suggestion
Thanks for the suggestion, but I kind of have my own way of doing the standings that the template doesn't show (row highlight for my team, playoff clinching symbol, etc.), like how I have the Rays' Grapefruit League standings on there, even though no one really keeps track of Spring Training, and definitely not on wikipedia. I know I don't update it a lot, but that's only because I'm a huge procrastinator, so I forget to do it, then when I remember to do it, I realize that all games haven't been played that day, and then I forget again, and usally the whole cycle starts over again. Plus, I kind of get self-conscious that if I do it a lot, when people check out my contributions, a bunch are going to be to my userpage instead of actual wikipedia stuff. But thanks for looking out! Sometimes I wonder if anyone actually checks out my userpage. Tampabay721 (talk) 02:42, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] re: Gun Control
No problem about asking my opinion on it. First, as to the college and high school shootings, those aren't common. What happens, though, is that when they do happen they make the news. Stricter gun control generally won't help because either the guns were procured illegally (i.e. Columbine) or in such a manner that stricter gun controls such as waiting periods wouldn't have stopped it (i.e. Virginia Tech). As far as criminal activity is concerned, generally those guns are acquired illegally (either the process is illegal, the gun itself if illegal, or the new owner isn't allow to have a gun) as well. Strict gun control won't curtail this since criminals, by their very nature, do not care about the law. In addition, problems with border security will still mean that criminals can get around strict gun control by smuggling guns through Mexico. Finally, there is issue of suicide. While, no doubt, limiting the number of guns will decrease the number of gun involved suicided, there are still plenty of other ways to commit suicide. What's stopping someone contemplating suicide from just using another method to achieve their goal?
On the other hand, there is some evidence to support that permitting residents to carry concealed fire arms reduces crime. Unfortunately, that information is hard to obtain because generally statistics aren't kept on the number crimes ended because the victim brandished a weapon. Also, when a victim does use a gun to protect themselves by shooting the perpetrator, the event is usually included in the "assault by fire arm" or "fire arm homicide" data since, technically, it falls under those categories as a justified event. {{help me}} this page here needs to be deleted immediately by an admin because it is nonsense. I already tagged it but the user undid my edit and i dont want to keep going back and forth with the user. the category for speedy deletes has a backlog. In future cases can someone tell me an admin who specifically deletes nonsense articles. Thanks Roadrunnerz45 (talk) 10:37, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- I have rolled back the removal of the speedy tag, and warned the user on their talk page for removing speedy tags from pages that they have created themselves. If an admin doesn't dispose of it soon, I'll poke one for you. :) Stwalkerster [ talk ] 10:47, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Rollback
Hi!
I do have rollback, yes, but I don't have it displayed on my user page because I don't really feel that there is a purpose to it. The purpose of the user boxes that I do have displayed is for the sake of someone being able to ask me for help in one of my areas of expertise (I use the word expertise very cautiously, I'm not really an expert in anything). No one will ever ask me to help them by using Rollback, you just use it at your own discretion.
Thanks. SWik78 (talk) 13:04, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy Deletion edits
Hi Roadrunnerz45. You're more than welcome. In answer to your question, deleted edits will not show up on a lot of contribution count tools (like the popular one at RFA by Interiot. However admins can see them, and they do count in your edit count under your "my preferences" tab. So don't worry - they are still there, just largely hidden from non-admins. [edit] Why the redundant edit?
Hi Roadrunnerz45. I was the guy who removed some vandalism from the Indigestion article, but I notice from http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Indigestion&action=history that you reverted my edit back to the vandalism, then back again before the vandalism. The end result was the same - the vandalism was removed.
Seems kinda redundant. I already removed the vandalism, so why did you reverse my change then remove the vandalism yourself? It's like doing extra work for nothing. Was my quip in the edit history out of line or something? 121.45.112.251 (talk) 02:54, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that's a lot of vandalism. Probably an attack from some Internet forum. Topics about religion always get a lot of vandalism - the Islam article was semi-protected when it was on the Main Page. Graham87 09:48, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] You've done a great job and deserve to be rewarded
Just want to say i think you should nominate the Boston Celtics 2007-08 Season as a good article, in fact it deserves to be a featured article. You have done a great job updating the pages and staying in touch with the news from the very start of the season and deserve to be rewarded by having the article preserved. I have no doubt it will get done, i dont know how the process works but it would be a shame if you didn't nominate it. The only thing missing was the pictures and now you've added 2. This was the final step. Thanks, and great work! Roadrunnerz45 (talk) 10:59, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! Yeah, I've pretty much watched every game and read through every ESPN game recap and Boston Globe/Herald article and updated this page with all the needed information from there. I will definitely nominate it, but maybe you can help me? I asked on some talk page, but they said the season's not finished yet and therefore can't be nominated just yet. Hey, maybe you can get me a "True Celtic Barnstar" from the Boston Celtics WikiProject? I would love it! ● 8~Hype @ 11:05, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Could you maybe add that I got it for laboriously updating 2007-08 Boston Celtics season? Thanks in advance! Finally someone appreciates my work. You know, I wanted the Celtics not only to be the best on the court, but also on Wikipedia. ● 8~Hype @ 11:15, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Things are going well here ... I'm on a two week break from studies which is always a good thing. To revert a page back to a previous version, click on the date in the page history you want to revert to, then click edit this page, as described at Help:Reverting. Gosh I feel old-fashioned now ... back when I started with Wikipedia, that was practically the only way to restore a page to an earlier version without admin rollback. [edit] Adminship and cakes
Hi Roadrunnerz45, and thanks very much for the cake you gave me for my birthday! I really appreciate it. In answer to your question about becoming an admin, well there's a general threshold of around 75% which is expected, but it's not a hard and fast rule. As a bureaucrat it's up to me to make sense of the community's opinions of a prospective admin when the support % is near the threshold. Even then, if it's too tough for me to call on my own then I'll speak to other bureaucrats about it to help make the decision. If you're interested then I'd suggest you read WP:ADMIN if you haven't already! All the best, and thanks again for your birthday wishes. The Rambling Man (talk)

[edit] thanks
Thanks for your message. I always appreciate feedback on my work here. I can see that you are doing a lot of great work here also. I hadn't seen Graham87 around before. But it's great that you are talking about users that you like, whereas usually people here seem to only talk about other users when they need to complain about them. When I started here almost 5 years ago, this was a much smaller community and I probably knew about most of the main contributors, but now there are over 1000 administrators and thousands of other users. Also I'm not on Wikipedia quite as much as I once was, since I've become much busier in real life, mostly as a student leader at my college. However, I plan to keep contributing and fighting vandalism here when I can. Again, thanks for your message, and even though I don't edit the areas you edit very often, don't hesitate to ask me for any help. Unless it's about images, I try to stay away from situations involving them for obvious reasons. Academic Challenger (talk) 20:51, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hobartimus
Hiya, if I'm understanding your question, there are two answers: (1) Any administrator can remove edits from history, through what's called a "delete and partial restore" method. However, there are still "deleted edits" which are then visible to any other administrator. Someone with oversight access, however, can even delete things such that they don't show up in the "deleted edits" option. (2) Userpages don't need to have extensive vandalism to be semi-protected. In general, no one's going to be editing the userpage except for that user anyway, so there would never be a need for an anon or new account to have access to the page. In the vast majority of cases, any anon who did edit someone else's userpage, would probably be doing so just to vandalize. Since Hobartium does some vandal patrolling, after I saw his page vandalized, I offered to semi-protect it for him, and he agreed. Hope that helps explain, --Elonka 14:31, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Samuel Karlin's page edits
Why did you write, when undoing my contributions to Samuel Karlin's page, that my rewrites were "sneaky, very sneaky?"
"Assume good faith" no "Personal attacks"
Don't agree with those basic tenants?
I'd supplied several book citations complete with ISBNs -- which you deleted.
I'd filled in considerable other information about Sam, each time with supportive links from credible sources -- which you summarily deleted.
A careful read would have shown that I relocated the one or two sentences you restored... while you simultaneously obliterated all the other information I'd added.
But, seriously, your "commentary" that my edits were "sneaky, very sneaky" was very, very unnecessary and absurdly inaccurate.

I am trying to be civil here. I understand that disrupting the entire "Michael Kelso" page is unruly and uncalled for, but at the same time, I AM a human being. I am the REAL Michael Kelso and I deserve to be noticed. As you can see by my editing, I was around long before the boy on "That 70s Show" and besides that I'm real. All that I ask is that I may have a small paragraph or two to let the world know my story. Oh and if it's possible, I would like to place a small edit on the John F. Kennedy article for my mother, Janice Faye Kelso (JFK).

Gee, thank you for the compliment(s), Roadrunnerz45. :-) I'm glad that my work here is still appreciated by someone, as this year I've been receiving more stones than compliments. :-P I believe that you are right when you say that these are times when users leave the project because they somehow get tired of the project. Wikipedia has become quite gray, one often has to ask themselves why are we here. Maybe this feeling started after Esperanza was terminated. Many users supported its extinction because it didn't produce any benefit to the project. They were wrong, Esperanza was one of the few human things on Wikipedia, it provided a little bit of human warmth to the project. Right after Esperanza was terminated, Wikipedia began to get colder, many users stopped getting to know each other and now, well, now Wikipedia is not half as fun. Eventually someone will fix this. Best regards, Húsönd 15:59, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RfA thanks!
RfA: Many thanks | ||
Many thanks for your participation in my recent request for adminship. I am impressed by the amount of thought that goes into people's contribution to the RfA process, and humbled that so many have chosen to trust me with this new responsibility. I step into this new role cautiously, but will do my very best to live up to your kind words and expectations, and to further the project of the encyclopedia. Again, thank you. --jbmurray (talk • contribs) 06:09, 18 May 2008 (UTC) |
[edit] Redirect of Coco Pops
I disagree that there was a "consensus" that the main article should be "Coco Pops" with a redirect from "Cocoa Krispies." One person suggested the change and after a week's time had passed and two people (notably people from "Coco Pops" countries) supported it, the change was made.
I am not going to revert the edits I made to the Coco Pops page. (That is a horribly Anglo-centric and shabbily done page with misinformation, e.g., Coco Pops in Mexico? No, it's Choco Krispis. Indeed, the article ignores the entire Spanish and Portuguese speaking population of the globe -- including heavily populated Brazil -- which knows the product only as Choco Krispis.) Rather, I am resurrecting the Cocoa Krispies page as I had edited it without the redirect to Coco Pops until the problems are (amicably, of course) resolved, for, among other things, the reasons set forth on the Coco Pops talk page.Jhw57 (talk) 15:43, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Enigmaman
Hi!
I think that this Wikipedian is a real genuine supporter on this site. He truly deserves that special honor you bestowed on him.
I have been having a hell of a lot of problems with editors from ??? these past days. I think that there should be elimination of bad editors who just go around the site making troubles for others. I have experianced this especially over the past few days. Enigmaman is the one who watches out for deliquents on here. I am more than happy he got an award.

Here's a second version of the wikilife userbox I made: User:Youre dreaming eh?/Userboxes/WikiLife2. Just add {{User:Youre dreaming eh?/Userboxes/WikiLife2|he}} in place of the other userbox. By the way, if you ever have a request for a userbox, I'd be glad to make you one! You're dreaming eh? 22:00, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the BIG help in this minor problem that appeared to go on for too long. Yeah, my writing is filled with that kind of English. I am known for that.
Thanks for the support and fast solution. My identity is well known over here with English readers. About Japan, okay to live here, but you must know the darn language.Being a foreigner here is just about that. Thank you! Electric Japan (talk) 05:36, 20 May 2008 (UTC) |
[edit] Blue's Clues
Thanks for your revert of this article. Also thanks for providing me with some chuckles. You called the edit you reverted, "dubious unsourced content". Actually, it was downright vandalism, the same kind that plagues both this article and Steve Burns. As the main editor of both, I'm come to call it, "Steve Burns vandalism". Thanks for your quick fix!
[edit] WP:FAR nomination of Surtsey
I have nominated Surtsey because it does not seem to meet the featured articled criteria 1.(c), 2.(c), and 4. It is quite short, and is not of comparable length to current FA's. It is very under-referenced, and some of them aren't in the {{cite web}} form at all, just in <ref> tags. I do not believe that this fits the FA criteria any longer. You are welcome to comment at the review. Dreamafter (talk) 21:20, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: from my talk
It was added to Wikipedia:Unsuccessful_adminship_candidacies/F right after it was closed, and the user was notified. Even though it was not accepted, it was transcluded, and as such, still failed. In my opinion, it should remain in the archive. SynergeticMaggot (talk) 21:47, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thunderbirds character images
Hi! I think it would be a great idea to include images of each character on their pages. I think one screenshot of each character on their individual pages would be fine, or an image of all the characters in one photo would also be acceptable. To reduce the size of the images I usually use Photoshop or Apple's Preview app (I'm on a Mac). If you want some help resizing images, upload them onto WikiCommons and then I'll shrink them and reupload for you. Howie ☎ 14:43, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User page protections
I decided that, unless I really needed to protect any of my own pages, I would leave it up to other admins rather than do it myself. It just seemed more appropriate to let other administrators handle protections of my pages. Acalamari 15:46, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Last month's Collaboration of the Month, Magic Johnson was a great success. A total of 560 edits were made to the article during the month of May, and the article was eventually nominated as a Featured Article Candidate. Although the article was not promoted, it was significantly improved through the work of many editors. This month's Collaboration of the Month is Steve Nash. Although this is article is already a Good Article, it still can be improved. In particular, all prose should conform to Featured Article standards, all statements should be verified, and the text should be in a neutral point of view. If there is anything you can do to improve the article, then please help out.
The Collaborator of the Month is given to the editor with the most number of substantial, beneficial edits to the article chosen as the Collaboration of the Month. This month's Collaborator of the Month award goes to Chensiyuan (talk · contribs). [edit] My assumptions on Indoplug's Tailgating
Hello. There is a user on here who loves to target my contributions on Wikipedia. How can one advance on here when you have someone like this fella,User:Indopug. Loves to remove everyhing I do. I can see his only hobby is going around participating in vandalism. A building reputation he has himself focused on at Wikipedia.
I sense he has no knowledge of nostalgia which Cheap Trick (the issue in question) which Cheap Trick is relying on for years. It makes complete sense when there is an article about the topc on hand. I don't even think he has no knowledge about the group. That is an sssumption of mine. A very boring individual who has one offensive pesky task on here, indeed among other's with other more productive interests.
Primitive Indoplug has one indispensible role on here. Bringing trouble and just trailing me. I liked to have some silence on this as soon as possible. Can you do something about it. The end result to this is that you can resolve the issue in hand. How can one be productive on here with ones like him around targeting others. I know he has a history of it on Wikipedia. I've discussed this issue at a few groups/seminars I've attended here in Japan. Wikipedia shouldn't be about bad reactions to contributions. It should be more welcoming. I could say more about this. Perhaps, I will at a later date. Electric Japan (talk) 05:27, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] I have no time for pranksters
Hi. Are you in Japan as well?
I am not dealing with kids anymore. My schedule is not going to be going on here to have a war of words. This is all that the spotlighted user is about.
I will wait a day or more than take it up to administration.I can't match his vandalistic attitude online. If you want productive contributions then I will add to it...which is fact. I can't understand the mentality of those that refer to themselves as a Wikipedia editor. It makes for a great comedic discussion though.
Thanks, Electric Japan (talk) 05:49, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] I don't need it
Australia! Great!
You are exactly right. I use to be Wikipedia's biggest fan. This has changed over the weeks. I am through with edit wars. I don't need it. I am not a fighter who wants to mess up things. I only contribute facts.
This is going to be over for me if it keeps up in this direction. This is the only thing he wants. I couldn't possibly imagine having a conversation with this kind of individual. Releasing anger on the net seems to be something that I have no time for to see from others who claim to be editors. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
Your friend, Electric Japan (talk) 06:08, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Is this a new page for you? I have been to Aussie land before.

[edit] !vote
Sorry for taking so long to reply, I just woke up. Anyway, the exclamation point is sometimes used because it is supposed to mean "not vote". In some computer programming languages "!=" means "not equal" and the idea of "!vote" was taken from there. Using that terminology is supposed to indicate that it's not really a vote.
