[edit] Lil Flip246
After having a read over several talk pages, a glance at some related articles, and some of the edits in question, I feel the same way as yourself. It' seems this editor has been given enough advice on how Wikipedia works and they just aren't taking the message(s) in. I'll drop the editors who've contacted me a note to let them know my opinion. Thanks for weighing in. -- Longhair 13:28, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Lil Flip246 again
User:Lil Flip246 is still ignoring advice given by multiple editors and admins. Take a look at the Lisa D'Amato article, for example. Not only is it filled with unsourced gossip, her citation links still don't contain the information they're supposed to be sourcing, and she still uses "I saw on it TV myself" and "Someone said it on MySpace" as sources. I would hate to think that an editor could get by with such recklessness on a grand scale simply by being persistent. wikipediatrix 21:35, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] mistake on tag WTC
just wanted to inform you that the photo you have posted by eva.. was definatly not taken in 1990. It must have been before that.
There is no world financial center, 5 buildings which stood in front of the WTC. They were built in the 80s, so this picture is either early 80s or late 70s —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iplaygoodguitar (talk • contribs) 12:22, 5 September 2006
Sorry If i've posted this more than once
Just to correct you
The photo you tagged of the world trade center by eva is not from 1990
The world FINANCIAL center, which was built during the 80s (4 buildings) are not in the photo.
They guarded the hudson side of the center.
Meaning this photo is either from the late 70s or early 70s —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iplaygoodguitar (talk • contribs) 12:25, 5 September 2006

[edit] Life (magazine)
I see you have an interest in Life (magazine), or at least some of the staffers. Good work on adding those people to Wiki. Can you look at the Life (magazine) talk page, because I'm in the midst of adding quite a bit to Life's entry, and nobody seems to have any input. Perhaps you do. --K72ndst 18:46, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- I have a question for you. In the Life (magazine) article, I'd like to put in a better photo that is actually on the Robert Capa article. Is there some Wiki rule against using the same photo in 2 different articles? I looked and don't see that rule anyplace. My aim is just to have a better cover illustration for the article. I'm still working on rewriting the history of Life (magazine) and am now thinking about having better pix in there. Thanks for the help. --K72ndst 14:59, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:HOdlum.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:HOdlum.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Talk:Bow tie
Hi,
You may have an interest, since I saw your name in the history list of the Bow tie article: There's a separate article, List of bow tie wearers and an admin is suggesting deleting it. When I looked into the Bow tie page, I found there's already a list there. I don't have an opinion on which list should remain, but one really should go. I'd appreciate your advice on the Talk:Bow tie page, if you're interested and have the time.Noroton 00:45, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] new message
Hi Doc,
My idea of polling people on what they want with the bow-tie articles hasn't exactly worked perfectly. I don't see much of a consensus for moving the list to one page or the other, so I'm going to try this: I'll cut down the list on the Bow tie main page to a summary and make sure everything is on the List of bow tie wearers page sometime late this week unless I hear a strong objection from those, like you, who have suggested otherwise. I think (hope) that's an acceptable resolution. Feel free to speak up if I'm all wet.Noroton 20:27, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Liaquat Ali Khan
I have written an article regarding Liaquat Ali Khan, a prominent leader for the Pakistan movement and the First Prime minister of Pakistan. Although it has recieved a "B" rating but that was prior to addition of the criticism and legacy section and the provision of five more references. I believe the article deserves a higher rating since it fills all the requirements for a Good Article and easily be upgraded to a Featured Article. It has relevant and tagged images, ample and very credible references, presents an unbiased view and is well written.
It would be great if you could review and point out the mistakes and give it a proper rating.

Thank you for your support in my RfA. Unfortunately consensus was not reached, and the nomination was not successful. However, I do appreciate your taking the time to participate. [edit] Signature
Hi, it has been brought to my attention that our signatures are almost identical and have confused at least one editor. I'd change mine rather than asking you to look at yours, but I've got thousands of contributions over 18 months of editing, and many established wikipedians are used to knowing that 'Doc' is me. I wonder if you'd consider using something else, or at least something else beyond simply 'Doc' (perhaps 'Doc McJ' 'DocDC' etc.) so we don't get confused. (Trust me that being mistaken for me won't necessarily do your credibility any good on Wikipedia!). As I say, I'd change mine, except it would still be all over the wiki - and many editors would still think Doc was me. Yours. --Doc 15:32, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Doc, and thanks for your participation at the recent RfA, which did not succeed. For those of you who expressed their support, your kind words and your trust are sincerely appreciated. [edit] Anderson Cooper
I'd appreciate your views on the talk page of Anderson Cooper bio article. I have added content that is sourced, verifiable, notable and not from a gossip site, but from the editorial page of the Washington Blade raising direct questions about Cooper's integrity as a journalist in response to his comments on his "personal life" (hence the section title). And an anonymous user again blanked the whole section, and a new debate is going on. I noticed you've worked on this article before. I'd really appreciate your views.NYDCSP 15:04, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:GretaKeller30s.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:GretaKeller30s.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:12, 13 April 2007 (UTC). [edit] Your opinion
Hi, Doc. I just wanted to ask your opinion it here, directly to you, before any action (or decision) to make sure that it isn't seen as me acting rude. I hope I can succeed on this.
As you are related to this person at least in some degree, I would like to hear from you if you believe Miirrha Alhambra passes Wikipedia's criteria for notability. Of course, as we all well know, Wikipedia's notability is not a metric for someone's character or importance, and it's in this spirit that I ask your opinion on that.
I just noticed this article exists. As it currently is, I would say it's endangered. But your word that that could be saved with some effort would be enough for me.
Thanks for you attention. Best regards, --Abu badali (talk) 23:27, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:DeEviaLogo.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:DeEviaLogo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Replaceable fair use Image:GallaghersTroph.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:GallaghersTroph.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Bresson.JPG
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Bresson.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:HelenParkhurst.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:HelenParkhurst.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:OlegcassiniBK.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:OlegcassiniBK.jpg.
If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Podkapova 05:55, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:BarbaraFritchie.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:BarbaraFritchie.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:00, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Maskmarv.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Maskmarv.jpg.
If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL.
If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:41, 13 February 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 14:41, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] regarding Image:Mmtitle.jpg
Please read this. The section I linked to is Wikipedia policy. It says:
Image description page. The image or media description page contains the following: (a) Attribution of the source of the material and, if different from the source, of the copyright holder. See: Wikipedia:Citing sources#When uploading an image. (b) A copyright tag that indicates which Wikipedia policy provision is claimed to permit the use. For a list of image copyright tags, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free content. (c) The name of each article (a link to the articles is recommended as well) in which fair use is claimed for the item, and a separate fair-use rationale for each use of the item, as explained at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. The rationale is presented in clear, plain language, and is relevant to each use.
This means 2 individual rationales are needed.--Rockfang (talk) 17:40, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ferncliff Cemetery and Aaliyah
This is at least the second time that Aaliyah's name has been deleted from mention in the Rosewood Mausoleum in Ferncliff Cemetery. I don't know where you get the idea that one name is too many names to include in the listing. As far as I know, Aaliayh is the only celebrity currently entombed in Rosewood, and there is absolutely no reason not to mention this in the Ferncliff Cemetery article. People have the right to know where Aaliyah is laid to rest in the cemetery. She has a private room on the left side at the end of the corridor. I know this because I've been there. It seems apparent that you don't want people to know where she is located in the cemetery. Are you afraid of too much foot traffic and undesireable people visiting her resting place?

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:25 Cats.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:25 Cats.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

[edit] Image:25_Cats.jpg
I have tagged Image:25_Cats.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 22:50, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] NYC Meetup: June 1, 2008
New York City Meetup
|
In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, elect a board of directors, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).
We'll also review our recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wiki Week bonanza, being planned with Columbia University students for September or October.
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.
You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.
Also, check out our regional US Wikimedia chapters blog Wiki Northeast (and we're open to guest posts).

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:BelleGreene.jpg}
Thank you for uploading Image:BelleGreene.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Speedy deletion of Image:HelleuGreene.jpg
A tag has been placed on Image:HelleuGreene.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. BJTalk 12:34, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
