D. J. Coffman

D. J. Coffman is an American cartoonist born on January 17, 1976. Coffman is better known as the creator of the Hero by Night comic series and the webcomic Yirmumah. He has also illustrated several other published comic books listed at this online comicography. [1] Coffman also has done work on the Monkey Man comic series with comic/screenwriter Brian Lynch that included a webcomic at Kevin Smith's MoviePoopShoot.com [2], He also designed the official "Movie PoopShoot" logo for View Askew Productions.

In July of 2006 Coffman won the first annual Comic Book Challenge held by Platinum Studios and NBC with his project Hero by Night. He was also a judge at the 2007 Comic Book Challenge .[3]

Hero by Night tells the adventures of a young man, Jack King, who discovers an old super hero's hidden lair and all his gear. Instead of instantly becoming a hero, Jack decides to put the items on eBay to try to make a fortune, but it draws the attention of the original hero's archenemies. The comic book mini-series features the story of Jack King in the modern day faced with this dilemma of becoming a hero, or running away with fortune. [4] The book has been reviewed by Wizard Magazine [5] , and has ranked on Wizard's "Summer Heat Index". [6] The series has also been reviewed by online comic magazines such as Silver Bullet Comics [7], Newsarama.com [8] and AINT IT COOL NEWS [9]

The Hero By Night Journals [10] follow the stories of the original Hero from the 1940s and 1950s up until he vanishes.

In December 2007 the Hero By Night ongoing comic book series launched in comic book stores worldwide, and can also be read on the website. [11]

Yirmumah is a daily webcomic written and drawn by Coffman, and sometimes written by collaborator Bob McDeavitt. Yirmumah is part of the webcomics collective Keenspot.[12] It has been published as a mini comic [13] and color comic book series. [14] Yirmumah was also a regular feature in the 2005 relaunch of Cracked Magazine and Cracked Magazine.com

In 2006, Coffman switched Yirmumah back to an autobiographical comic called ORIGIN [15] which features the story of how his Father and Mother met.
