D'Oyly Carte Island
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
D'Oyly Carte Island is a small island in the River Thames, England, on the reach above Sunbury Lock and just below Shepperton Lock. It is located between Weybridge and Shepperton.
The island has a small footbridge and there is a large house and garden on the island. It was previously owned by Richard D'Oyly Carte, producer of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas in Victorian times, hence the name by which the island is known. It offers mooring to small boats.
