[edit] Merge

I proposed merging the info from Art (Myst) into this article. I suggest we direct discussion to that page's talk (Talk:Art (Myst)) for convenience. SFT | Talk 06:56, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposal

Did anyone think of merging the Ages mentioned in the books in articles like 'Ages of BoA' etc?

[edit] New version

I replaced the old version with a new one that doesn't detail any of the Ages at all and only links to them, making the page much more compact and accessible. Also added an alphabetical listing. -- Chucker 14:47, 2004 Jun 27 (UTC)

[edit] Change in structure

I really do not like the current division in Ages, and the naming is illogical. I would rather put all the "Ages" that form part of D’ni (Neighbourhoods, K’Veer, Ae'gura, Great Zero etc.) in one article (D’ni Cavern?), and likewise put the Ages of Atrus only described on the Myst website in one article (what more can be said on them)? Anárion 09:07, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Difficult matter there, since that "Age" is actually our very planet "Earth". So that would also include Cleft, Tomahna and Tokyo ( ;-) ). Many sites have the convention to have all things in the cavern (like you listed) together, but that's not technically more correct as the current Wikipedia way either. Any other opinions on this? -- Chucker 12:34, 2004 Jun 30 (UTC)

Article names like Myst Island Age (Myst) should also be simplified to Myst Island (Myst), do we really need "Age" in all names? Anárion 09:07, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Well, I've been wondering that, but it gets confusing with Ages like "Riven". Obviously, the game and the Age are two separate matters, as the latter was also featured in BoA and realMyst. Not sure either here. -- Chucker 12:34, 2004 Jun 30 (UTC)

I hesitate to perform these edits without prior discussion, so I welcome your opinions on this. Anárion 09:07, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I've been pondering about both points myself before, but since nobody commented while I was drafting the original D'ni ages page, I figured I might just do it "my way" for now. There, is of course, the issue that finding the article for "J'nanin", as an example, is awkward right now.
Either way, I'd like to have some more opinions on this before all the pages get restructured yet again... -- Chucker 12:34, 2004 Jun 30 (UTC)

[edit] Proposal by Chucker

Alright, might as well propose an alternative.

  • The two neighborhood pages and the ones about K’Veer, Ae'gura and the Great Zero (any one missing?) are made into redirects into a "D'ni cavern" page that has subheadings for each of them so it covers all their content.
    • I´m all for this. Anárion 13:11, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Alrighty then. But please do it with the proper apostrophe ;-) -- Chucker 13:36, 2004 Jun 30 (UTC)
  • Instead of "<Age name> Age (Myst)", we do "<Age name>" as long as it does not conflict too obviously with non-Myst stuff or existing Myst pages. For example, make "J'nanin Age (Myst)" redirect to "J'nanin". "Riven Age (Myst)", on the other hand, should remain the same. -- Chucker 12:50, 2004 Jun 30 (UTC)
    • Against: all Myst items should have (Myst) in the name. Thus J'nanin (Myst). The big advantage is that we can then link like this [[J'nanin (Myst)|]] which will come out as [[J'nanin]] and still avoid any ambiguation. Anárion 13:11, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)
So, should existing pages not having (Myst) be moved, such as "Riven", or, for that matter, "D'ni ages"? ✍ Chucker 13:37, 2004 Jun 30 (UTC)

One more thing, would Dream be counted as a separate age or as a part of Serenia?

[edit] What later knowledge?

Initially, many believed that the Ages visited in the Myst game were different time stages of Myst Island, but later knowledge revealed this was a mistaken view.

Mention what knowledge you're talking about, please. I've seen nothing to indicate that Myst's ages are not intended to be different time periods of the same place. Various clues throughout the journals and visuals make it clear that this is actually the case. These clues are mentioned in other articles on the ages.

By later knowledge we mean the knowledge of the Myst universe and the release of novels, which make clear that each Age is a different universe, not another timeframe. What 'clues' you mention to claim your view that the Ages are not different universes, ut different times? Pictureuploader 09:24, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Redirect

I have changed the redirect of this page to the subsection Ages in the article D'ni. This is to more accurately reflect the information that was previously available when clicking on the Wikilink to "D'ni Ages". If the reader wishes to know more about the D'ni people, they can scroll up to the top of the "D'ni" page, after reading about "D'ni Ages", which is the page that they requested first. -- OranL (talk) 07:03, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
