D-7 (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

D-7 is a song by the early punk rock band the Wipers appearing on their 1979 debut record Is This Real?.

The song was later covered, perhaps more famously, by the seminal US grunge group Nirvana for The Wipers tribute album Eight Songs for Greg Sage and The Wipers. However, the band had taken advantage of studio time provided by their record label, Geffen Records, who did not allow the release of the song. Nirvana ultimately bought their own studio time and recorded the song "Return of the Rat" for the tribute album instead.

Nirvana's version was eventually featured on the With The Lights Out box set released in 2004. It is also featured as a b-side on the single Lithium, and on the EP Hormoaning which was released in Australia and Japan only (about 30,000 copies in each of those two countries).
