Volmerswerth is a borough in western Düsseldorf, District 3, by the river Rhine. It borders to the boroughs Hamm, Bilk and Flehe. Its area is 2.17 km².
While more and more houses are constructed, the still remaining agricultural land is the reason of many of the people coming to Volmerswerth for walking, inline-skating and bicycling along the Rhine on the weekends.
[edit] History
The island Volmerswerth was mentioned for the first time in 1173. The owner of the little fishing settlement was the monastery Schwarzrheindorf in that time. Volmerswerth got its own church in the year 1300. In 1456 Volmerswerth got its own justice court, but in 1487 it became a part of Düsseldorf. In 1856 the new-gothic church was constructed.
[edit] Demography

The reason is, that Volmerswerth was traditionally a rural district inside of the city of Düsseldorf.
