Día del joven combatiente

Día del joven combatiente (Spanish for Day of the young combatant) is a non official remembrance day, celebrated each 29th March in Chile by the MIR and by people from Chilean slums. It commemorates the death of the brothers Rafael and Eduardo Vergara Toledo, which occurred the 29th March of 1985 during the military regime era in Chile. The conmemoration have evolved into a day of protest in most of Chile's slums. In recent years the protest have become more violent and are seen by some like a mere excuse for vandalism and pillaging. Other days commemorated in a similar way by these groups is 11th September, day of the 1973 coup d'état.
