[edit] The origin of a joke?
Does anyone know who was the first person to parody the refrain of a well-known hymn using the words, "My hope is built on nothing less, than Scofield notes and Moody Press." ? DFH 17:51, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

There is a problem with this footnote: "Scofield's early life remains controverted. It seems virtually certain that Scofield deliberately provided inaccurate information to Who's Who and to his biographer, Charles Trumball." "It seems" are weasel words, are they not? If it seems that Scofield deliberately provided inaccurate information about himself then the reader needs to know what proof there is that shows he deliberately provided inaccurate information. This footnote opens up more questions. It could be the product of a bias against Scofield, unless it can be proven that this really occurred, using a credible source. This portion of the article appears rather biased, as if to cast a negative light on Scofield. A source is needed to back up the footnote information. 67.142.130.12 (talk) 21:28, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- I was trying to being careful when I wrote that footnote. Read the Who's Who entry (for which Scofield provided the information) and then try to find evidence for the material given there. For instance, Scofield claims that he was enlisted for a longer period than evidence suggests and fought at battles where his unit did not appear. If we need to spell out the problems, that can be done.--John Foxe (talk) 00:38, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
