[edit] Anna Nicole Smith

I read that she once owned a ranch here given to her by her husband.

I hadn't heard that but I don't pay much attention to ol' Anna. I did come up with this mention of it after about 30 seconds of Googling.

The ranch is off Cypress-Rosehill Road, north of Huffmeister but south of FM 2920. I don't think she's lived in there for several years. In fact, it's not really a ranch - it's ten acres big. Korranus 09:13, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 700,000 people

700,000 people? Where did this factoid come from? How is the area defined? Ufwuct 23:31, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

From http://www.cfisd.net/aboutour/history.htm#soaring

In 2005, student enrollment has exceeded 86,000. From 1995 to 2005, 19 schools were opened including Birkes, Danish, Duryea, Farney, Gleason, Keith, Kirk, Lee, Robison, Sampson, Tipps, and Walker elementary schools; Aragon, Goodson, Kahla, and Spillane middle schools; and Cypress Ridge, Cypress Springs, and Windfern High Schools. Four more schools, André, Black and Postma elementary schools and Cypress Woods High School, are scheduled to open for the 2006-2007 school year. As of today, 60 percent of the district’s 186-square miles have been developed with 689,620 Cypress-Fairbanks residents and 4,224 existing subdivisions.

Note that Cy-Fair ISD is MUCH MUCH larger than the traditional Cypress area.

--Mycroft.Holmes 23:45, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes MUCH larger, CFISD includes parts of the city of Houston, all of Jersey Village and other unincorporated areas of Harris county that do not identify as "Cypress." This is just a case of creative use of "facts". Jacksinterweb (talk) 06:25, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cypress Population

The 77429 zip code had a 2000 census population of about 42,000. See http://www.city-data.com/zips/77429.html. The Cypress zip codes comprise an area larger than the traditional Cypress area. --Mycroft.Holmes 23:55, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

The 77433 zip code had a 2000 census population of about 3,600. --Mycroft.Holmes 00:07, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

If you have a source that lists the zip codes of the Cypress area, great, let's add it. Otherwise, I see only the Texas Handbook source. Ufwuct 00:12, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Below someone quoted the Population at around 42,000, you need to note that the figure on that site came from the year 2000 (it appears), Cypress has grown a great deal since then. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Stmark3 (talk • contribs) 14:37, 5 November 2006.

If you have a reliable source that gives a more recent population number, please add it. Otherwise, we have only the 2000 population. Ufwuct 19:23, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
I was able to find a list of Cypress zip codes from http://zipcodes.addresses.com/zip_codes_by_city/34212.html
Zip Code City State County Area Code Time Zone Latitude/Longitude
77410 Cypress Texas Harris 281 Central 29.98/-95.68
77429 Cypress Texas Harris 281 Central 29.9766/-95.6358

[edit] Former Cypress city boundaries

What were the boundaries of the city of Cypress? WhisperToMe 16:29, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

An excellent question! I've lived in NW Harris County and inside Cy-Fair ISD for almost 30 years. As far as I know, Cypress has never been an incorporated area. I always considered the general Cypress area to be centered on Cy-Fair High School at 290 and Telge, although the intersection of Spring-Cypress and old Hempstead Highway is closer to the mark. Maybe someone in the appropriate County Precinct office would have some info. --Mycroft.Holmes 17:02, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
For grins, I just sent an email to the Precinct Three County Commissioner's Office asking that very question. I'm not holding my breath for an answer, but you never know!--Mycroft.Holmes 17:16, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
From what I've picked up from living in Cypress, Cypress was never incorporated, just a little stop on US 290 centered on Spring-Cypress Road and the Hempstead Highway (US 290), starting at Skinner and 290 on the east and Cypress-Rosehill on the west. This area was preserved when the county put in the freeway and the stretch is know a Business US 290. The area was west of what was back then Hot Wells (currently 290 and Barker-Cypress Road) but well east of Hockley or Waller, the next incorporated town.

There was once an excellent book written on the development of the area, but I only saw it in a gift shop as a child and it may no longer exist.70.132.141.175 23:59, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article Improvement

Hello, I've improved the Cypress entry and wikified a lot of terms to look something like other towns' pages. For demographics, I used the 2000 Census Factfinder data for zip codes 77429 and 77433 only; the Factfinder didn't list a 77410 and it's possible that zip code may have been created after 2000. Census didn't have any 2005 estimates for Cypress, so it appears we're stuck with 2000 data til the next Census. I was also able to find some information on the historical marker in Ravensway. :) If anyone finds data on 77410, please add that in. -- Korranus 08:51, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm fairly certain that 77410 is a zip code for p.o. boxes only

[edit] Pictures of old Cypress

I just had an idea after seeing how much this article has grown. Heritage on the frontage road of 290 near Spring-Cypress road used the have some really old pictures of Cypress, from about 1910's or maybe 1920's. I was thinking it would be cool if someone could see if they would let those pictures be scanned and uploaded to this article. I would do it my self but I am living in Waco now; what do yall think? [edit] External Links

I recently added a community website to the external links. It has been removed. I was hoping that someone could shed some light as to why. I got a message however it was a canned type of response. The website I listed was Thefairfieldscoop. It is a website about one of the most popular neighborhoods in Cypress Texas. I am new to this and your feedback is very much welcomed.Thefairfieldscoop 02:57, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Your link has been identified as spam. Please see How not to be a spammer. The website reads like an advertisement. Also, when I went to the site, it would not let me "Go back" out of it. This may be a glitch, but it is highly typical of commercial sites. --Evb-wiki 03:12, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

That is very strange as the site works well on both IE and Mozilla Firefox without any issues. The site is only about the Fairfield neighborhood and is not what most people would classify as a "commercial" site (or what w3.org would define as commercial). There are no cheesy Google ads or pay per click links. The site as a whole only has a total of 3 advertisers with a total of 4 ads. I will look at the "How not to be a spammer" info you provided and see what I can do to fix the incorrect "perception" of the site.Thefairfieldscoop 03:45, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Why not create an article about the neighborhood and use The Fairfield Scoop to cite the sources? See, Wikipedia isn't a link farm, but we can add information about Fairfield here. WhisperToMe 04:04, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that info WhisperToMe.Thefairfieldscoop 04:28, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
