Cypress Gardens (South Carolina)

Cypress Gardens is a 163-acre (0.66 km²) preserve and gardens located at 3030 Cypress Garden Road, Moncks Corner, South Carolina. They are open daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day; an admission fee is charged. The gardens are managed by Berkeley County.
The garders were previously rice plantations, and contain about 80 acres (0.32 km²) of open swamp with cypress trees, boat rides, and boardwalks. Plantings around the swamp include azaleas, blueberries, a camellia garden, daffodils, a daylily island, dogwoods, pitcher plants, redbud, a rice field, rose garden, and a lotus pond, as well as the following major features:
- Aquarium (1998) - about 30 freshwater fish species including largemouth and hybrid bass, bluegill, bowfin, catfish, crappie, longnose gar, and shortnose sturgeon; also 17 species of reptiles and amphibians, including large aquatic salamanders. The aquarium holds approximately 24,000 gallons (90,850 litres) of water.
- Aviary - four bird species in a rotating exhibit.
- Butterfly House (1997) - a 2,500-square-foot (230 m²) indoor exhibit housing butterflies, birds, and turtles.
- Crocodile Isle - common, exotic, and endangered species including Crocodylus moreletii, Crocodylus niloticus, Crocodylus porosus, Crocodylus siamensis, Osteolaemus tetraspis, and Tomistoma schlegelii.
- Reptile Center (2001) - 35 species of reptiles and amphibians, including turtles, crocodiles, and snakes.
The gardens also include picnic tables, rental facilities, and 4.5 miles (7.2 km) of walking paths and nature trails.
