Cynthia Roxas-Del Castillo

Cynthia Roxas-Del Castillo is the former Dean of the Ateneo Law School in Makati City, Philippines. She remains one of the most active law professors and bar reviewers in the country.

She is a Partner at Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc and De Los Angeles, the third largest law firm in the country.

[edit] Early life and education

Roxas was born in 1952. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Arts and Letters in 1972. She attended the Ateneo Law School, serving as the second woman editor-in-chief of the Ateneo Law Journal in 1975, and graduating as the law school's first woman class valedictorian, in 1976.

She took the Philippine Bar Examinations in 1976 and placed 11th among all bar examinees.[1]

Roxas served as a Lecturer and Pre-Bar Reviewer at the Ateneo Law School since 1979. She was appointed as the Consultant for Student Affairs in the law school from 1987 to 1990. She was promoted as Dean in 1990. She served in this capacity from 1990 to 2000. She is the second longest-serving dean of the law school, next only to Fr. Joaquin G. Bernas who has served for two separate terms.[1]

She was the Chairwoman of the Search Committee, an office created to search for best candidates for the law deanship in preparation for then Fr. Bernas's impending retirement in 2004.[1]

Roxas is a Partner at Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & De Los Angeles, the third largest law firm in the Philippines.[1]

Roxas remains active in several law socities such as the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, and the Federacion Internacional de Abogadas (FIDA).[1]

Roxas is married to Mariano Del Castillo, currently an Associate Justice of the Philippine Court of Appeals. The couple has two children.[2]
