[edit] Origins
CymruX was founded in 2005 to merge Plaid Cymru's two existing movements in to one new youth movement. The student federation 'the ffed' and the youth movement were merged to create a brand new youth organisation available to anyone under the age of 30. A number of young Plaid members wanted to create a vibrant new movement which would appeal to all young people in Wales. The members felt it important that young people of all ages should be able to take part in the political process together, without a separate movement only for students. This has opened up the movement to more people, for example, young people in Wales who are working, and school pupils.
[edit] Structure
At the present time, CymruX is run by its National Committee, chaired by Mabon ap Gwynfor. The committee is elected every March.
[edit] Activities
So far Cymru X has focused on developing its internal position within Plaid Cymru. However, there are indications that this will soon be changing, especially given Bethan Jenkins' nomination as lead Plaid Cymru candidate on the South West Wales List for the 2007 National Assembly of Wales elections.
There are also some link-ups with FSN and YSI, which are the student and youth wings of the SNP.
